We are happy to share with you that the last expansion for Command: Chain of War is coming out 18th May, next Thursday!

Prepare yourself for a new kind of electronic warfare, with EMP nukes to bring your enemy back to the Stone Age and futuristic laser weapons to blast any incoming threat!

Prepare your chemlights, ladies and gentlemen.

Edit: Question

I do have a question regarding the EMP. What about the vintage units (with 50s-70s techs) that even transistors are only a few inside? Are they immune or rapidly recoverable from EMP attack? I have heard that numerous old fighters and bombers are using analog rudders and avionics.

My idea is the large wave of old MiGs storming forth while commencing EMP/nuclear strike, disabling hostile air defenses except the old steels are keep flying.

Do you mean that this will be 'the last' expansion? That's what it says. End of development? End of expansion, at least. No advanced strike planner in the pipeline, for example? Or should it read 'the latest'?

Last.... well that is disappointing, to say the least. At least it is going out with a zap.

Indeed. They say "latest", not "last".

That's right dev team, none of this "last" business! We're not letting you leave so easily - so I guess you better learn to accept that you'll have to get more of our money in the future

Yeah I was surprised to see the word 'Last' in there. It conflicts with what Paul Bridge said in the Wargamer Interview back in November.

Here is the link to the interview: http://www.wargamer.com/articles/interview-paul-bridge-and-command-modern-airnaval-operations/

and this is what was said, in response to the following question: What's coming up in terms of DLC? Are you going to just be making LIVE add-ons or will you do historical ones as well?

quote:

Mike's doing one in the China theatre of operations, another one is the Arab – Israeli Wars, I'm doing one that covers from 67' – 73'. The Six Day War, War of Attrition and the Yom Kippur War. I'm also working on one covering the Air Operations in Vietnam. Linebacker, the B-52 raids etc... Once we finalise things like cargo, we can have proper amphibious landings and cover things like the Falklands War as well.

Presumably the "one in the China theatre of operations" refers to Chains of War.

Now, this could mean that Chains of War is the last "large expansion" with new features and being standalone (Not requiring CMANO), and that what is mentioned in the above quote could be more along the lines of the LIVE DLCs, in that they are just scenarios with no new features added.

Would very much like some clarification on this though.

I'm sure Mike meant latest - I really wouldn't worry about CMANO's future at the moment It's one of the most successful titles published by Matrix, has been doing well on Steam, seems to have received another boost with the Pro version - and, as the interview mentions, down the road the commercial edition's dev team is expected to increase, not decrease.

Don't quote me on it, but I also seem to recall reading in another interview/post that CMANO is expected to remain in live development to about 2020, before the effort switches to the eventual sequel, which would be ready by the time CMANO turns 10 years old.

Great question, and scenario idea. Just like in BSG where advanced Viper2s insta-wiped and Legacy Vipers saved the fleet, you can have a scenario where F-15s only flown by ANG squadrons need to be trans-ocean ferried to save the day, while your forces are being shot up dead on the airfield and sea.

But, just like the questions I had for comma loss, I doubt that was taken into consideration. I suppose LUA could be added to make certain aircraft immune?

They are not immune but they are less likely to be affected.

There are three main factors that determine the probability of damage:

1) Pulse strength, which is related to distance from detonation (High-altitude/near-space detonations produce an almost uniform "blanket", which makes the pulse strength less sensitive to distance. Low/med-altitude detonations OTOH produce a spherical effect, similar to explosive blast, which makes pulse strength directly relevant to distance).

2) Tech generation of sensor / comm-device (systems of early-60s and earlier tech gen are less affected, and from the early '70s and onwards there is an increasing degree of vulnerability).

3) Whether the device is operating or not (keeping a sensor off will not make it immune as there is still a chance of being affected, but is far less likely). In one of the Chains Of War scenarios you have to keep this in mind because you will have to use EMPs fairly close to your forces.

Got it. So the engines and rudders might run fine, but the attack effectiveness will be very limited because sensors are still important.

This could help for scenario editing too, thanks.

well, maybe. your average modern jet uses at least relaxed static stability and relies on a complicated electronic flight control system.

fry that and worst case you're going to 90 AOA and falling out of the sky.

What I said is the rusty Farmers and Sabers, some fanboys believes it can just straight out and ignores EMP, as they said some countries keep them for a reason.

Could not be able to call for help or assist to land because radio is fried, I could give it that. But some gauges are still runs mechanically and at least give pilots some clues what to do, not hopelessly staring at the blank monitors.

I'm thinking of buying Chains of War, but I suspect it will be sold only for download and not also on DVD, as it has usually been the case with Matrix Games. If my suspicion is correct, is there a way I can download it twice for my two PCs, without paying for two games? I think so but not sure. Thanks.
