Sorry if I'm being thick here but I can't find much about carrier ops in the manual. I have one just outside of Taranto now and I want to surprise Il Duce. (Shhh..don't tell.) Other then putting the carrier on Naval Ops mode how do I get my Swordfish to raid the ships in port?

Assuming you are at war with Italy, then the only other reason that you might not able to attack is weather. If a carrier is in a sea hex that is experiencing Storms (common in the Atlantic, less so in the Med) then it can't launch planes. If it's in a port hex that is experiencing rain, then the carrier also can't launch air attacks.

Finally if the TARGET hex is undergoing storms or rain, then an air attack on that hex is impossible.

It can be difficult to spot the weather effects. As you roll your cursor over sea hexes they will say "Storms" or "Calm" in the info window. rain can be hard to see on the actual map and the info window for land hexes doesn't display the same way as for sea hexes (cause of much complaint!).
A full-sea hex and an adjacent part-sea coastal hex can also have different weather.

Thanks guys. I'm almost there. My question was - is there anything else I have to click to prompt an attack besides being close enough, being in Naval/Tactical mode and finding favorable weather? Also - what IS the range of my Swordfish? Thanks.

You`ll have to see an enemy of course and leftclick on the target with your unit activated. The attackrange is also shown by rightclicking the unit, together with attack- and defensevalues and the seedetection. To launch a reconaissance mission press the shift key, remember this will cost 1 attack and supply.

OK. I'll try that tonight when I get home. I was just afraid that by left clicking on the port my carrier would sail straight there rather then send bombers. Thanks again.

Nope, the carrier will attack the port, otherwise the ship if there is one in it.

Thanks again.
My pleasure.
