Hi all!

Campaigns on the Danube has been updated to version 3.05!

You can download the update from here
pub link

Members Area

Changes:

- New playback system: a more streamlined single system rather than multiple systems depending on whether its a 2 player game, solitaire or different levels of fog. Now there is always a playback just as there used to be in only the full fog version. Spotting is more detailed, units can shift into and out of view in a single playback.
- Around 50 minor fixes done based on forum feedback

I have a few times looked at this game (like WEGO) and a couple nice mods (ex. counter and map) but was concerned about its age.

But with a new patch out and a bit of player feedback on it I'll purchase it.

- V3.04 to v3.05 sounds small but the description sounds large, how is the new patch?

- does this run fine on Windows 10?

Great News !!

Game patched to v3.05 is running in 'Windows 10' adjusted in compatibility settings to 'Run as Administrator'.

CHEMKID's map and counter mods applied and looking good.

I have just finished running an AAR in Frank Hunter's 'Piercing Fortress Europe' and preparing to continue the AAR for CotD started in v3.04, so I will keep v3.04 active for the AAR, whilst trying out v3.05.

Small typo error in the 'readme' and 'What's New' files, where v3.04 is listed twice, the text is OK, but headings are wrong.

Here is v3.05 with CHEMKID's map and counter mods applied :

Sorry the quality is low, but the forum upload limit is only 200kb today, I'll try and improve it, but it is just to show that this is not merely an old game, but well worth playing.

The French have appeared, Friant of Davout's III Corps, already over the Danube and through DEGGENDORF, as an orders mix-up delayed HOHENZOLLERN's march to the river. CHARLES is not pleased !

This has occurred with the 'Town Banner' graphic :

I am using my own mod to convert the town banners to text and it hasn't caused a problem before, but now using v3.05, sometimes the town banner is over the unit counter, sometimes under.

When the town banner is over the unit counter, the unit cannot be selected, it not a big problem, as by de-selecting 'map names' the unit is accessible again. Maybe it's always been this way, but I haven't noticed it in earlier versions.

I always thought it was always 'units on top', but maybe there is something I have missed in the new set up.

Checked out an un-modified v3.05 and the commander units are shown over the town banners, whilst the ordinary units are shown obscured under the town banners, not sure if this is WAD.

To emphasis, this does not seriously affect game play, as the town banners can be selected on/off as required, but I didn't see this before.

I can bring the unit counters to sit over the top of the town banners by switching off 'map names', right clicking the affected units, so that when I switch 'map names' back on they appear with the unit counters now on top, which are now clear to select and issue orders. Again, I don't know if this is WAD, but I haven't seen it before.

Same thing happens with supply depots, which are sometimes hidden by the town banner, the switch off/right click brings the icons above the banner names and fully visible.

Can anyone confirm whether this patch is cumulative?

Also, any word on whether this patch fixes the problem with units disappearing in multiplayer games?

I have applied it as a comprehensive update applied to the original set-up and it is working OK. I haven't checked multiplayer yet, still working on what else is new. However, it looks like the different functions have been combined, the game turn resolution in multiplayer seems to be the same as solo play, I am clicking the e-mail icon to progress the solo game. It's now all one system, I think.

What version would you download when you buy the game today since there has been 1.x, 2.x and 3.x patches? Would prefer the installer to be updated.

When I bought the game it was installer v2.20 and I have updated this with each v3.XX update, as they have been issued. I don't know what version Matrix are issuing now for a purchase, but I would expect that it would need to be updated with the latest patch.

I recommend applying the CHEMKID counter and icon mod for the best gaming experience.

I am using 'Windows 10' and set game application 'compatibility' settings to 'run as administrator'. It is an old game and the issuing of these updates is to permit it to run on newer systems and higher screen resolutions. It is likely that you may need to make some adjustments, depending on the computer system you are using.

The Mod is still in the 'Mods and Scenario' section of the Forum.

http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=3884743

The mod provides new files to replace the original files in the game folders 'counters' and 'Maps', which can be found in the game 'graphics' folder. As always, it is a good idea to back-up the originals.

It's been a while since the mods where added, so you have to go back to 'All topics' to display beyond the last 365 days.

Thanks Frank, much appreciated.

Here's another possible problem, although it's early days with this version.

When there is a highlight in a hex after a battle, then that hex cannot be accessed, the stack count doesn't always work and the units stacked there cannot be selected, or viewed, the hex cannot be selected as an objective. The hex becomes inaccessible, whilst the highlight is showing.

I posted that the bug causing commanders to chase after attached units was back, but that was misinterpreting what the commanders were doing and it is not a problem.

When playing with 'Reports Only' can reports from earlier turns be archived so that 'Previous' button will cycle back through all pervious reports, maybe with a 'Cancel/Delete' option to remove reports which are no longer relevant.

v3.05 is providing more messages on screen, but the message text is sometimes incomplete.

Also the message background is always this cloudy scene and I can't remember if it is supposed to change with weather each turn.
