I was running through Gunner98's Strike Tutorial #1, and ran into a couple issues.

The first is when the first F-16 is assigned to attack Target 1 using F1, it drops its bombs from 36,000 feet ASL rather than the minimum altitude (800 AGL) it would if it were assigned via the mission editor. It does accelerate to full military power, but it doesn't drop altitude.

The same issue happens when Shift+F1 is used to assign the F-16 to attack the target.

The attached save is with the F-16 about 8 miles out. I'll have the second issue up in its own thread shortly.

Edit - The aircraft will attack ground targets at whatever altitude it was at/headed toward when manually assigned assuming it is within weapon release parameters. I just tested again with the aircraft at 12,000 feet instead of headed to 36,000 feet and it maintained 12,000 feet through bomb release.

Also, this isn't limited to the Mk82, but encompasses all air-to-ground weaponry.

Just tried your save and tried auto targeting instead of manually dropping and the F-16 stayed at 36000 feet while dropping the bombs, is this WAD?

Cheers

Just done a test with in another scenario...

If you setup a strike mission the plane attacks properly...

If you Auto attack the plane goes to 36000 ft and drops bombs from that height..Same if manual like Eggstor says...

Cheers

Patience. This is effectively the first day we have the chance to look into this.

Looked into this now and the behavior seems as expected.

You are assigning a manual attack, which means you are in manual control of the aircraft. You can set it to bomb from any altitude by manually setting the desired altitude. Don't forget that low/med altitude can be a really bad idea if the enemy has AAA or light SAMs.
