Two of my favorite pieces of military hardware! The only thing missing is my third favorite, the M1 Carbine.

Actually had one out that evening but did not get to photos because I had not cleaned it before losing my light. Also, a pre war Arisaka that looks very very fine. Not in the photo but sitting on the table at the time is a Springfield that had the barrel bored to take a 22 cal. round. The army had a limited number made by John Garand in the early twenties as they proved to be excellent training rifles and the rounds were much less expensive. It may be the most valuable rifle in the collection. My buddy has a nice collection but I had to give him some grief for not taking better care of them.

crsutton, nice rifles. I admire folks who can keep 70+ year old firearms in such good shape.

My only WW2 rifle is a 1943 Lee-Enfield. 30-40 rounds through that thing guarantees a black-and-blue shoulder next morning. It is in pretty poor condition and now retired.

The Mk V Jungle Carbine is even worse to shoot. Dad and brother both have one. Very dashing to carry, but inflicts pain to shoot.

I've got a nice collections of old Trapdoor Springfields. A Model 66, 68, 73, and 84. The first two are in .50-70 Government, which I have to load myself. Both have perfect bores in them. The last two are a bit beat up, rifling-wise.

Aside from a shotgun for trap shooting this is the only gun I own anymore. My wife just hates them, so I got rid of the rest. This was made in 1913 and is a colt m1911 with US Navy marked on the slide. It is quite rare and only 15,000 were made with that marking on the slide, so really should not be shot. But it is in very shootable condition.

I am constantly amazed at the quality of weapons from the early 1900s when you consider that muskets were still in vogue when the U.S. Civil War started in 1861. Fantastic advances in design and machining.

Your 1911 looks like its in pretty decent condition. Agree such a rare firearm shouldn't be fired. Imagine the stories it could tell if it could only talk.

When you consider that the m1911 is still considered one of the best pistol designs, and that the Browning BAR and .50 Caliber heavy machine gun came along shortly afterwards, abosolutely. The 50 caliber is an amazing weapon as it is still in use and in production 100 years later. How many modern firearms have had that sort of run?
