Manila Bay Defenses does have radar. Two SCR-270 radar sets both working. Endured another bombardment this turn.

More Palembang reinforcements should arrive in 2.5 days. The UK 54th Brigade, UK 55th Brigade, 118th Field Artillery, 148th Field Artillery, and the HQ for the UK 18th Division. These brigades have engineers, which none of the units currently there have, so I'm hoping this will help with the destructo part of the oil fields.

From Intel Monkey...

A group of IJN cruisers just bombarded there this turn, so landings probably aren't far off.

Kavieng was bombarded by two Kongos and Gasmata was hit by Yamashiro and two cruisers. Landings at Kavieng and Wewak this turn also.

KB and probably mini-KB are just south of Mindanao, moving east, apparently. Probably supervising the invasion there. Kates are doing some ASW work.

Attacks continue at Singapore and Tarakan. Bombardments at Bataan, as he's too weak there.

Zulu seems to think he's the worst Japanese player ever, but my own game against AW1Steve and Onime probably proved that wrong.

Cagayan falls. Remaining troops are holed up at Butuan. All 76 AV worth.

Things are getting too hot at Palembang for my ships unloading there. I've lost 3 transports, so I'm routing them to Oosthaven, which will make things slower. My fighter strength there has been decimated by his sweeps with me losing something light 8 for every one of his.

Tarakan, Bataan and Singapore still hold, for now.

I've been slacking with ship withdrawals, which came up pretty quickly. Not sure where I can do this on-map. Two are headed for Cape Town to do this. I've got six waiting to go with another coming up in about a week. After that, I've got at least 3 months until the next one. I'm in decent shape right now, in terms of Political Points. Units are organized a bit differently here with not quite so many restrictions, like in a normal game. Most of these crap units don't cost much anyway.

An AKV arrived in Cape Town. Don't really know what to do with her as no units are inbound at all.

Singapore and Bataan still bombed daily. Still claiming about a bomber per raid, so it adds up. Once he takes those two, I don't know how well I'll be able to resist.

My pool's building up, so I upgraded two B-17 squadrons to the E model.

Mostly quiet. Not much to do on these turns.

Revenge arrives at Cape Town. Be nice if I can get her with the ships at Madjene. That would be a surprise

Zamboanga falls. He landed about 3 days ago and only attacked this turn. Butuan is the only base I hold on Mindanao.

At Palembang, I've got about 780 AV in troops there, so they should hold awhile. The base info says no engineers, but there are some with the units there. Not sure why they're not showing.

A few days ago, at Palembang, he was attacking the little ships I had there. All my fighters were training. They avoided his sweeps, but then got involved with his bombers.

12 plane(s) intercepting now.
Group patrol altitude is 15000 , scrambling fighters between 0 and 15000.
Raid is overhead

Training flight from No.488 Sqn RNZAF has been caught up in attack

Some troops (small units plus an HQ) arrived at Diego Garcia. I'm moving these to Java, as I get enough ships there.

This is old. I guess Corregidor is completely impotent against shipping.

Butuan falls, leaving Mindanao in his control now. Bombardments at Bataan and Singapore. He still doesn't have enough troops to take Bataan. In an email, he says there are no more. Maybe he should have waited with Rabaul and Kavieng.

Looks like he is trying a very aggressive opening which bypasses some of your bases to come back and clean them up later. Hope you can use this to bite him with some behind the lines action!

Not sure where he's heading right now. He's tied up at Bataan and Singapore. He hasn't gone past Tarakan on Borneo yet. He was taking all the little bases on the top of New Guinea, but it's been awhile.

09 February 1942

Bombardments at the two big bases. I'm not sure why he isn't pushing harder on Singapore, as he's got a 3 to 1 advantage on me there. As it is, his bombardments are hurting me badly there.

I see a group of light carriers off the southern tip of Mindanao, moving east. Not sure where they're going. Ships are also stooging around at Rabaul. I'm getting some B-10s to Port Moresby via Darwin. Some of the Australian commands are being fussy as many of them, as well as ABDA won't let me transfer there. Due to my excess of shipping to be withdrawn, I'm also out of PPs.

I'm wondering where he can get ships fixed, like what I did to Shoho a couple of turns ago. Formosa maybe? Maybe any hurt battleships are out of luck.

No shipyard in Formosa, but Pescadores next door has one. I am not sure the size of Shoho vis-à-vis the SY there. At any rate, Shanghai is not far and with no secondary explosions Shoho should not be in danger of sinking unless your subs can catch up to her.

I'm guessing his next target may be Palembang. He swept here, with disastrous results for me, despite my staggered CAP.

More lame bombardments at Bataan. Kirishima shrugged off some miraculous hits from a 14 and 10 (I think) gun.

Hi Mundy

Has this game lapsed?

I'd be fascinated to play through this scenario if you could reveal the source. It would appear to be just the step up I need after completing the smaller operations like Aleutians, Coral Sea etc.. Also, it's a piece of action which Ive rather glossed over (except for Singapore, Bataan) in the past, regarding the initial Japanese advance as pretty much fait accompli.

So a link to a source would be much appreciated.

No, it's still going. Traffic on this AAR seemed slow, so I wasn't motivated to keep it up.

You'll have to check with Zulu from which scenario pack this scenario came from. I'm not sure where and I don't have it in my list. I'd like to give LST's bottleneck mod a try again against a willing IJN opponent. My last opponent learned the hard way you couldn't take far flung bases on the cheap and gave it up.

Well, this game has come to a halt. I think Zulu's gotten frustrated working with the Japanese, a side I think he generally doesn't play. I lost plenty of ships in the Balikpapan strait, but torped some of his carriers in return.

I'd say that this scenario caters to the more masochistic allied player, as it isn't really fun playing that side. The Japanese also have some severe constraints while trying to take their objectives.

Now to see if I can get another bottleneck campaign going...
