So i have been experimenting with the effects of jamming using an EA-6B Prowler (loaded with an OECM pod) and using that to mask a B-1B's approach to an Sa-8 which has its FCR on. The Sa-8's FCR doesnt pick up the Prowler or the B-1 but when the B-1 gets so close it gets spotted with the Mk.1 Eyeball and is then engaged when i set its altitude to less than 20,889 feet (Sa-8 is at an elevation of 889 feet).
The thing is, is that the FCR is still jammed and the Sa-8's missiles are SARH so how can they fire without the guidance of the FCR? or can the crew input the data manually into the FCR by what they see? not sure how that works or whether its supposed to work at all and could be a bug?

SA-8 has an optical sensor and weapons guide link. This is why it can detect and engage the B1 from close range....

Sorry i should have mentioned, i had its optics destroyed using damage control and setting it to destroyed with the drop down menu so it couldnt use it. I guess the weapons guide link would explain it but where is this mentioned in the weapons' DB entry? i see nothing under datalinks and that it just has SARH guidance.

It was the Mk.1 Eyeball that spotted the B-1 at close range, as i said i had the optics destroyed.

No file no soup!

Aka. If we can see the file we can tell exactly what's going on. Not guess what's going on.

Sorry, here is a save just before the SAM's eyes get eyes on the Prowler. Will then need to wait until the Prowler passes the SA-8 till its beyond min range and the SAM opens up with a jammed FCR which cant be right?

By the way i've had a bottle of wine so please excuse what i named the save, and the sides lol

Okay looks like it is being illuminated by the FCR. Looking through the arc for the AN/ALQ-99I offensive jammers is 360. What happens is the aircraft is jammed until it passes over and then gets shot at for only a couple miles or two and then the radar is once again jammed. So it looks like some kind of burn through that occurs when the radar is pointed at the aircraft's arse or Dimitris made an exception for systems with optical guidance options which isn't actually inconsistent as to what could happen in real life.

This one is really right up there with who gives a toss but will let Dimitris be the judge.

Ok it seems you're 100% correct. Just done another test where i had the Prowler not jamming to start with so the Sa-8 FCR (Land Roll) detects the Prowler at 22.5nm. I waited for the SA-8's LLTV to type classify the Prowler so i knew it was tracking it with that and then i had the Prowler turn the music on. Once within range of the Sa-8's missiles, sure enough insufficient reflection/LOS so cant engage due to the jamming. Then at about 3nm the SA-8 opens up so this is the range at which it burns through the jamming.
What i was seeing before was the Prowler was always being detected by Mk.1 Eyeball first before the FCR was able to burn through the jamming, its just the log obviously doesnt mention that the FCR has burned through only that it opens up on the Prowler. I actually did another test with an Sa-10b and that burns through the jamming at about 6nm. That seems about right as the SA-10's Flap Lid is a decade more advanced tech wise than the Land Roll of the Sa-8.

Command really is a great sim, yay. I've sobered up now thank god so you wont get anymore posts from me with links to Kate Bush songs, or any other lol. Thanks for looking at this mik and helping to clarify this.

I'm not even really that keen on that song by Kate Bush, just that after a drink i go into a funny mood where i listen to music thats kind of moody. I find that song has a kind of sad but upbeat sound to it at the same time. An emotional rollercoaster.

Ha no worries! Knowing how to have fun is a great thing! Although was wondering why you turned to Kate! Honestly been on a Tom Petty kick for the last few for obvious reasons so it was a good change! Got lost in googling her music for awhile.

I just released a glide bomb on an Sa-10, watched as it was free fallin' down to its target. Like Tom Petty. I'm listening to Pulp now, song called Babies. My lovely glide bomb babies lol.
