These issues have been raised on the forum for the new product, but I thought I would ask it here anyway.

Does the Strategic Command World War one classic now advertised by Matrix contain the Strategic Command Blitzkrieg expansion?

Does it contain anything new or different for those of us who already have the old version of both the game and the expansion?

The original game, with the expansions, is simply the best World War One game ever done, and the only one where I played the main whole war scenario to completion a number of times.

It would be incredibly exciting if something new wa included, even further patching.

Forgive my impatience, but this is exciting news!

My favorite SC game for sure. The AI is polished, the decisions event are varied and impactful, winning strategies are multiple and the included scenarios and mini-campaigns are deep enough to worth multiple playthroughs.

SC WW1 is truly a great game. I can't await a NEW SC WW1 game.

Will there be a new version of the 1917 scenario adapted to Breakthrough, or will the 1917 scenario stick to the Great War mechanics?

All the Strategic Command games that I've ever seen (including the original version of this one) can be played with 3D figures or Nato symbols on 3D blocks (a bit like something from Columbia Games).

The 3D figures are kind of quaint but appropriate. I usually prefer counters with symbols, but in this game they look right and a lot better than the counters.

Okay, thanks. The 3D figures in this game do look quite nice, though I *much* prefer using NATO counters in SCWiE for clarity

Not sure how I feel about squares instead of hexes, though...

The squares are tolerable, but just barely.

This isn't a simulation, and there are a lot of other situations where game convention overides realistic modeling in this series, so squares vs. hexes becomes a smallish issue. The stacking convention (or lack of stacking) is not as much of an issue in this game as in the WW II games in the series.

Here's a pair of screenshots that shows what the game looks like with 3D figures and with blocks and symbols:

And as an aside, real maps either have no grid or square grids printed on them. The only ones I've ever seen with hexgrids were wargame maps.

But having said all of that, hexes are the only way to go with strategic level games.

This is a re release of the Strategic Command 2 title originally sold by Battlefront.

If you mean the 'Breakthrough!' expansion yes it does (it does not include an expansion called 'Blitzkrieg')

The Fall Weiss campaign from Blitzkrieg and it's expansion Weapons and Warfare are both available as Mods. Case Neptune from the Patton's Drive East expansion is also available.

All three play considerably faster then they did under the respective titles as well.

I never had an issue with grids. I generally played with the grid turned off like the screenshot above. Once you get over it it doesn't impact the gameplay. It's really competitive for PBEM. Really well balanced. One or two house rules about opening moves but other than that it's very well balanced. I miss the pbem as you were able to have a discussion with your opponent. The current server based system only allows for a short text message.

There's an excellent east Africa campaign in it too. Heavily waited in the Brits favour but it is still a lot of fun to see how long you can hold out as the Germans.

But it does include a complete WW2 campaign, which is maybe not as good as the new SC WW2, but pretty good in its own ways:

different graphics (the 3D models look better that the ones in the current version, at least that is my point of view)
squares instead of hexes (squares are ok, but the hexes in SC WW2 are so much better)


Anyway, those of you reader which are not sure if they should buy or not:

BUY THIS GAME, do yourself this favour, as this is the bargain of your wargame lifetime.

You get an AWESOME (awesome, awesome, awesome!) WW1 game, which as we now know will include the great BREAKTHROUGH add-on, a WW2 campaign, A RUSSIAN REVOLUTION campaign (reds against the whites), a 1870 Franco-Prussian campaign, WW1 colonial conflicts, a pre WW1 conflict (balkan wars of 1912, if I remember correctly), basicly several wars for the price of one. And most of the campaigns and scenarios play on different maps, so will get around in the world.

How is the map scale compared to SCWiE? From the screenshot looks like it's more detailed and with a higher unit density, not necessarily a good thing in a strategic-level game - I already find the size of the map and unit count a little overwhelming in SCWiE.

Also, is it possible to turn the map grid on?

The NATO blocks aren't as pretty as the 3D sprites, but to me it's a helluva lot clearer to see what's happening

Yes, it is possible to turn the map grid on, this is a standard SC feature since ages.
:)

From my point of view the amount of units is quite allright. I could have lived with some more, but that is me.

Sorry for the lack of answers, busy time I'm afraid

I'm sorry to disappoint some of you but Strategic Command Classic WW1 whilst it does include Breakthrough! and will be available on Steam does not use the Slitherine/Matrix PBEM system and I'm afraid it does not include the WW2 campaign (sorry)

Nice posts, I have a question,
I bought the game when it came out from Battlefront. I deleted the game from my computer but I might have the setup.exe .

If I want to reinstall, will it work?

Secondly, Steam has this game now?

If you bought it from battlefront you should be able to go back to their store page and download it again. I bought it on battlefront when it was originally released and I am still able to download it. When the Breakthrough DLC was released I only played that from then on. I have win 10 and Breakthrough (1.05) is working just fine.
