Your attack on Takamatsu was in Heavy Rain. For that reason I don't think you should blow off the idea of attacking the LI at night some other time.

Good point.

Strategic bombing at night, with no DL, and any opposition almost always fails.

Moonlight also plays a role.

Give it another day or two...Allied intel always underreports initial hits. Most times.

• The troops at Bangkok will rest, but we will keep the attack cycle moving as frequently as possible. We are pulling out the comparatively tiny combat Eng Bn, and one division which is hors de combat. The dedicated artillery units will bombard on their own, pending results achieved tomorrow.

• Most of our units in pursuit from Vinh have caught up to the enemy and will attack tomorrow any units still in hex.

• The Empire is acting to save their units at Chumphon, movement see to the SW out of that place. Our Eng Bn has 10 miles to go and seems to be making 3 miles per day. Luckily the road out of Chumphon is a trail and therefore slow. We have two Rgts in Chumphon, and one of them will assault tomorrow to fatigue and disrupt the Imperials, seeking to further slow their movement. the Rgts will attack on alternate days, trying to not retreat the Imperials. The British 2nd Division, on the trail NE of Chumphon, has made only 8 miles.

• Assault at Kompong Chhnang tomorrow.

• After today's route our troops will pursue through Haiphong and Hanoi to the border of China, hoping to establish contact with rebels there.

• The bombardment at Bangkok was a success and will continue. The fighters making low attacks suffered grievous losses and are standing down to recover. Our own troops in Bangkok are recovering Disruption quite quickly. I'll give them a couple of days to (hopefully) recover more disabled squads before the next assault. I think for that assault I will also have various of the surrounding units move in and shock attack across the rivers. Trying to arrange that timing, I think the assault will be 3 days from now.

• 25th Australian Brigade will pursue into Phnom Penh.

• The results at Chumphon were so awesome they have to stop attacking for fear of capturing the base and retreating the enemy units prematurely. Both Bdes will bombard, and air strikes will continue. The pioneer Bn has 9 miles to go, say 3 days.

• There are a bunch of small vessels in Bangkok harbor undoubtedly unloading supplies. The port is highly damaged but recon on that varies from day to day.

Japan, Korea, Manchuria, Russia

• B-29 target: Hamamatsu, Manpower, night, 5,000 ft, 153 B-29's report ready. Forecast is Overcast.

• Again tomorrow night. 154x B-29's report ready.

• I've worked it out so when I am ready for a daylight raid with sweeps there will be 3x P-38J squadrons on Iwo-jima, 75 aircraft total. That model is the fastest at 421 mph. The L model drops back to 414 mph. Both have 2,850 f/s climb rate, the best among the P-38's. Before too long after that, I'll be able to sweep with two squadrons of P-38 and two squadrons of P-51D, 100 fighters in all.

Complete combat report attached.

Just remind your captains not to target the Haha-Jima School of Yiddish Comedy. Cap Mandrake would never forgive you if you hit it ...

How long ago did you start your strategic bombing campaign, and how many B29s have you lost?

You have accumulated 2000 vp so far...

When I was getting bombed back into the dark ages, Allies had bases in Hokkaido and some of the Islands for fighters and then on Honshu, and I was losing something like 1000 vp a day from all sources...and I gave up 60K victory points in strategic bombing before the game autovic'd out on Jan 1 1945. My goal for the game was to lose 30k strategic VP. I was using A6M2s, Claudes and Nates at the end...even nightfighters on day duty.

Everything was bombing me...a seemingly endless amount of Avengers, which arrived first, to 2E bombers to Beasts. There was titanic land battles on Honshu which diverted a fair bit of the strategic victory point effort though -- anyhow it was ugly.

When I get time I'll look through the AAR to find the start (can't just now). It wasn't a running start, nor planned to be, just an early start. I think it was in early October 1944. Maybe roughly the 10th.

I'll have P-51D on Iwo-jima soon, which have a great range (maybe 19??) than the P-38 (several models max out at 16), and soon we'll have Chichi-jima and Haha-jima airfields, but those will take additional time to build and will always be small.

Hokkaido is not on the table yet. It was the early target last game with Walter. I invaded everything instead of even bothering with strategic bombing.

The pace of strategic points has picked up, and several more squadrons of B-29's are either on the way into theater or arriving very soon at Eastern USA. The requirement to rail the SR 5 planes from Eastern USA really slows down deployment because they take forever to come ready at SF. I take it by 1,000 points a day you meant from each raid/day of bombing. I might get there before too much longer. I assume if I am able to attrite defenses somewhat there will be a snowball effect.

Just get one B-29 ready in a unit, fly it out, fold the others into another unit. When the lone B-29 arrives where you want it, then get it replacements and more pilots. The excess aircraft in the gaining unit - or even a fragment - can be removed from the reserves and then given to the units that need them.

That is interesting.

Are you using nothing but AKVs to transport them?

For comparison, you should try sending one sqn of B-29s direct to Aden from EC USA, ship to Karachi and hop from there to your bases. Might be a week or two faster.

They fly from SF.

I suppose I could use AKV and go through the Canal, but that would take at least as long as rail plus reassembly.

You said some would appear at Eastern USA. Those are the ones I think could be sent via Aden.
