Underway and it looks like it started early enough to succeed or largely succeed. The Empire is moving more units into Changsha.

Have the turn and need to work it. Might not finish tonight.

One invasion convoy has been detected. Heavy volume of radio transmissions at Truk. I must assume a major sortie. Advice, comments?

Yes, but I am going to do so obliquely. I hope at least I can burn some major IJN fuel.

One sub is reported sunk but a sub TF is visible on the map. Whether a one-sub TF (not sunk!) or a two-sub TF (half sunk) the pursuit will continue.

Pacific

• A 3/3 DL on one invasion convoy. All other TF's report no DL.

• So those units did not withdraw they simply dropped off the map. Now a Rgt is in Katherine where most of the B-17E's will engage it.

• One B-17E Sqn will continue slowing the Rgt pursuing our armour near Wyndham; that unit is now heading east at speed toward the Katherine area.

• The two USA TD units are now heading toward Katherine, one direct while the other detours slightly to trap the enemy Rgt in Katherine. They will need most of a week to get there but the Empire might not see them yet and so won't know to slow them with air strikes.

INVADED
Katherine, Changsha, Mengtze, Urumchi are invested.

CHANGED OWNERSHIP
Enggano is occupied by the Japanese

Overall
• No carrier sightings.

• I have to start withdrawing some of the AP's I am using in this operation in 25 days, not much time at all. We might have to postpone the operation and get our carriers those wonderful AA upgrades. With one AP due in 25 days and another in 30 days at a PP penalty of 20 each and figuring in minimum operation time plus transit time we really are on the knife's edge right now.

• We can and will maintain full preparation for all assigned units to participate in Cantankerous Olfactory, but what else? We have to open up some other front to put and maintain pressure and increase trading of VP's.

West Coast USA, Alaska, Hawaii
• Enemy sub activity near San Francisco, Pearl Harbor.

• No enemy sub activity detected.

• All convoys report no contacts.

• The fleet has no DL and is moving to 158,106.

• A possible KB or other response sighting is 34 hexes from the fleet and 37 hexes from tomorrow's target position.

• The old CL TF (assigned to operation Cantankerous Olfactory) will be passing north of the fleet and will attempt to gain Imperial attention and tempt the KB northwards.

• There is only the slimmest possibility of Cantankerous Olfactory proceeding at this time. Tragedy would have to befall the enemy fleet carriers responding because we are just too far out to land at even the first two targets without being intercepted by major forces first.

With one AP due in 25 days and another in 30 days at a PP penalty of 20 each and figuring in minimum operation time plus transit time we really are on the knife's edge right now.

You would really be caught if one of the ships is critically damaged and can't withdraw until some repairs are made.

• An unidentified unit has appeared NE of Katherine. Surely this is the division which we engaged earlier. The B-17D's and B-26's (running supply) have moved to Alice Springs while the B-17E's have moved to Cloncurry. The B-17D's will target the approaching division while the B-17E's target the regiment at Katherine. Our three armour units there will assault tomorrow, although supplies are low.

• One of our USA TD Bns is now in Katherine and all units will attack tomorrow. I am fine with the notion the approaching enemy Rgt might cross into Katherine during the day because they will be forced to make a river-crossing shock attack, after which they will ripe pickings for an armored assault.

• Unless slowed by air strikes another USA TD Bn will enter Katherine in two days. More Australian armour is on the way too.

I assume we are safely back at Pearl? Still thinking having another go at it there?

All amphibious convoys unloaded and disbanded. Three AP's due to withdraw soon (one is 41 days out, the other two much sooner as mentioned previously) are departing for San Francisco.

The carriers will upgrade (perhaps in shifts) as soon as they get back to Pearl Harbor.

We might have enough AP's to hit all three if we reduce the assault force for one of the targets. Our weak state compared to the IJN makes it a much safer operation if we can hit all three targets at once.

21st/C Division

We will keep attacking in spite of supply. Bad weather meant our B-17 advantage was absent today.

• Need to build defensive bases and VP farms.

Philippines

DEI, Dutch new Guinea, Borneo, Malaya

China
• The shuffle goes on. The Empire has discovered a weak area on the eastern perimeter of the Chungking plain; hopefully we can plug them in time.

India, Burma, Thailand, Indochina
• No enemy sub activity detected.

• Making places more defensible in the event of further audacities and doing something about that looming VP ratio.
