Overall
• No carrier sightings.

Interesting to see the supply malus near Kunming.

How dug in are your troops? Those Chinese soldiers are an absolute terror with a shovel.

Not much yet. In fact, I think only one of those units (the big one!) has fortifications because the other units were just retreated.

I am happy to see Imperial supply problems too!

Next turn, really wiped out tonight. Hiked Granite Mountain today with 31 pounds on my back (just because!). I started early so there was lots of ice on the way up, plus some running water. I had to be super careful due to that (plus I was alone) so the ascent took me well over 3 hours whereas both ways usually takes us 3.5 to 4 hours including the scenic break at the top. Coming down was much easier due to substantial melting. Lots of additional deadfalls across the trail up on top due to recent storms. Minus breaks I had that pack on for about 5.5 hours, much longer than expected but what great exercise!

Chungking will fall relatively soon! I'm not sure it will hold until Jan 1. I could have stretched that out but I want to hold the mountains for the longer term strategic picture.

I feel like I messed up defense of China earlier and could have done better. Of course, even without asking him I am sure Walter feels the same for his side, so maybe it's really a wash.

FYI, Walter has a business trip coming up Friday returning the following week on Saturday. Here is forecast a heavy winter storm heaviest on Thursday. I doubt we will even see the pre-invasion battles before he returns.

Why do you assume a group of subs traveling together is on a mining mission?

I often collect 3-5 subs as a group and send them out together, and from the destination then break them down into individual patrols.

Walter uses 2 and even 3 sub TF's, but I figured 5 was too much for patrol. Didn't think about the break 'em down angle.

How far out do you have search and/or ASW flying off the flat tops? Fortuitous not to have had them spot on that surface force. I usually
run ASW with TBDs but lately have curtailed it in favor of stealth. One of my favorite parts of the game, .....the approach. To bad the CATS
(I assume) could not give you a heading.

Full search. There is a little gap in the PBY coverage not terribly far to the west of them. Besides, if there is an IJN carrier sortie I did not detect I don't want strikes hobbled by lack of search, so I'll just have to put up with the possible contacts with IJN subs giving away the fleet's position.

You AFBs are so bold with your advances in 1942!

Word of warning, I almost always prep divisions for counter invasions of the Pacific Islands. Additionally, Some of these islands are the absolute best places to bring off an unexpected CV clash speaking as a JFB. I have purposefully restricted naval search to only spot the invasion one day away and then pounced.

Finally, if the Japanese have been paying attention to their sigint, they probably knew something is coming.

So, my question to you is given the risk...steaming all those ships outside of land based search, why do it now? Why not wait at least until the KB is spotted somewhere else? I don't think you are in trouble VP wise.

You are pretty tight lipped, and this might be in conjunction with some other offensive...but still, this kind of move is something I, as a JFB, lives for.

Good luck and prove me wrong!
