You AFBs are so bold with your advances in 1942!
You do remember my aborted run in summer '42? What would you have called that?!

Word of warning, I almost always prep divisions for counter invasions of the Pacific Islands. Additionally, Some of these islands are the absolute best places to bring off an unexpected CV clash speaking as a JFB. I have purposefully restricted naval search to only spot the invasion one day away and then pounced.
Planning the forces involved plus remaining naval/air forces would withstand counter invasions.

Any CV clash would be both expected and desired.

Finally, if the Japanese have been paying attention to their sigint, they probably knew something is coming.
For that, the aborted run, and just good analysis Walter probably does know. I only need tactical surprise.

So, my question to you is given the risk...steaming all those ships outside of land based search, why do it now? Why not wait at least until the KB is spotted somewhere else? I don't think you are in trouble VP wise.
VP situation has improved. China situation has worsened (which will impact the whole VP situation).

The KB will *not* be spotted somewhere else.

Strategic intent to trade as much carnage as possible.

You are pretty tight lipped, and this might be in conjunction with some other offensive...but still, this kind of move is something I, as a JFB, lives for.
Not meaning to be tight-lipped. I think I was pretty open about the plan, but lots of time has passed both RL and game time since laying it all out. I made the aborted run back in summer '42, and the only modification since then has been ship upgrades and adding in whatever ships I could. The delay was brought on by AP withdrawals, since made up (well enough at least) and those upgrades which it only made sense to do as the IJN got stronger.

Good luck and prove me wrong!
Oh, great, now you tell me!

RL has been busy so not as much musing in the AAR as before. Questions will be answered, though!

I thought it might be one reason...well, if he loses them he will always get more, and really without impacting the Allied timetable too much. He would need to lose like three in row before it really hurts.

I answered that in the language it was asked, but what I really mean I want is a total fleet clash. I intend to throw everything I can in front for surface action. All of the old battleships are there too...

The IJN submarine symbol is actually two IJN surface ships. They are heading east.

The fleet is heading NW to continue advance and jog out of search range. There is a chance the Empire will conclude the ships were spotted by DB's out of Johnston Island.

Whatever you got SigInt on.

Does SigInt ever show when planning for own objectives? I don't recall ever seeing it.

just attacking with armor is painful. I bet his infantry is sitting on their hands watching the perimeter shrink. painful.

ps. I tried getting Monkey to recall IJA units "planning" with no joy. Any ideas on the correct fields to employ? even
if on specific bases?

Kurt,

Hit me with that in email. It will be easier for us to go back and forth with screen pics, etc.

Crikey! I need to clean house this week, and my little 'office', and catch up on things.

Outside chores are off the books for at least a week. The 1.5 feet plus of snow is freezing hard at 4.9 degrees outside the house right now and 45 minutes to sunrise. Melt-away will be slow.

Over in Flagstaff (90 minutes away) they got 40.3 inches at the airport for the whole storm, 35.9 inches on Thursday alone.

I'll remember not to complain!

Darwin is very slowly repairing base damage. Daily air strikes and frequent naval bombardments stymie our efforts.

One or more additional IJ units is moving toward Akyab and today there are ships present. What is the Empire planning or doing? Supply going in? Current unit rotating out? Bolstering defense? Some form of offensive coming up?

We are hard up against it in China. On the road east of Kunming are some good units we thought to have defending in front of Kunming by this time, now we must extract them somehow.

USA 4EB production will be fully dedicated to operations from Ledo to support defense of the mountain redoubt in China.

4.0 degrees now. Glad I live in the desert in Arizona instead of someplace cold.

3.2 F now. They promised 6! I don't even need two hands to count 3!

1942 November 26

USA 4EB production will be fully dedicated to operations from Ledo to support defense of the mountain redoubt in China.

I suspect if the Allies make it priority one from game start to air ship supplies into China, that the fight there turns out very differently. JFB's have gotten very good at taking China, but so far I have only seen a handful of players defend it somewhat effectively.

The Chinese are incredible diggers, and by now there should be several decent Corps dug in at levels 5-6 in some of those mountain passes.

I have some other thoughts, but need to double check them first in tracker.

To my mind, in the early war the Allies need to create the air supply bridge to China. That, and attempt to engage the IJN during daytime with surface fleets.

edit: for your consideration:

Chinese Stengths: great with shovel, plentiful hqs, off base x3 terrain.
Weakness: AT capability, AA ability, supply

For this situation: Fly some British and Indian elements in to help offset Chinese weakness, air supply to keep festungs supplied.
