So you are going to move into a position that lets KB get between you and your best available shipyard? What's your exit plan? What is so important about Tarawa that you have to risk a clash with KB to strike at it?

Exit plan? We don't need no stinkin' exit plan!

My apologies for boring you, and everybody into skimming the AAR. It's been a bit, uh, measured lately.

Don't see IJN getting between fleet and PH as a big deal. Damaged ships can head longer routes. How long can IJN forces stay there?

Tarawa is a pure feint. No troops for Tarawa embarked. Troops are for the invasions of Mili, Maloelap, Roi-Namur.

Got to speak up now.....Is there a diversion in progress? Perhaps something which could get noticed off the Kuriles or New Guinea?
Your wily opponent seems transfixed in CenPac. Maybe back him into some LBA south of the Gilberts?

Something I forgot to put in that last entry. USMC squads are upgrading to '43 spec. Two USMC Rgts are embarked with '42 spec squads. Should I sail the troop convoys for Pearl to unload, upgrade, and re-load those two Rgts? The combat fleet could remain at sea and seek an engagement without the encumbrance of the convoys to protect.

The 1943 upgrade is when the US Squads get the big boost to their anti-armour value. If you are expecting them to fight tanks or heavy forts it would be worthwhile to do the upgrade (if there are enough squads in the pools to make it happen in reasonable time).

I expect forts but little in the way of tanks at last recon as far as I recall. The pools are up to Rgt upgrade level. Regiments are already upgrading.

The game should be measured in early 43.

As much as we all want to see lots of action, it really isn't needed at this point. Pilot and crew training plus jabs and feints are what is needed at this point...plus struggling in China.

That being said, if you can get the KB behind you, then you have cut off their retreat (not the other way).

Caught up on recent developments, especially China where the IJA has been taking a shellacking.

Just, wow!

Only bad thing I can spot is that Kunming has no forts, if you can get some long legged fighters there for the occasional trap, and fly in supplies to Kunming and to Chungking?

Do you plan on flying any other units in to help?

No supplies there so any fighters which get there and become disabled will be there forever.

I'm pushing additional units into Burma to break the blockade. So in China 2x complete LRP Bdes and 1x African Bde minus non-air transportable items. Should I bring in another Bde? Maybe after Indian squads upgrade to higher anti-armor spec.

• The fleet is not spotted. The three troop convoys will sail for Pearl Harbor to upgrade the USMC Bdes' squads. The battle elements of the fleet will top of fuel after the convoys leave then move back into detection range. Perhaps the prior sightings of convoys with the fleet will give a false impression of status.

• The fleet is spotted 7 and 8 hexes east of Nanouti.

• KB's position a little south of Ponape means KB did not move smartly toward Truk to refuel. Best estimate is 33 hexes between our fleet carriers and theirs. Possibly the KB is faking or slow moving back toward Truk in hopes of ambushing Allied invasion. The fleet will move NNE tomorrow to be out of range of a sprint but still visible.

Can you give us another picture and a little more information on China please?

Perhaps a look at the amount of supplies you are flying in/base building in India, types and numbers of transports/bombers you are using, new models or improved production coming soon?

I'll get a couple of pics. Here is the narrative, and it's ugly.

Kunming is holding but with 0 forts. The Allied units have pulled out to fight elsewhere as they can be supplied by para drop. Kunming has 400% to 500% or more over stacking and all supply evaporates. Airfield damage 98%. Tsuyung airfield damage 98%. I think it's 78% damage at Paoshan. Outside of Paoshan our position is being ground down, and the enemy unit in Paoshan means no retreat to there. Two of the units outside Paoshan withdraw in less than 3 weeks, which will crumble the position for certain. The drive on Tsuyung is slicing through our weakest defenses. Tomorrow the IJA will attack and push our forces back across the river. Additional forces wait there, but not enough. a large river-crossing shock attack is likely to shatter our position. The IJA already has units poised - and probably already moving - to invest the road hex between Kunming and Tsuyung, and there troops driving on Tsuyung will be free to move to reinforce those offensives.

All C-47 replacements are flying supplies into China, and whatever else the relevant transport units began with or have upgraded to. Will supply pic. The current C-47 destination is the hex between Kunming and Tsuyung.

It looks like the mountains in China will fall this time.

The bases along the India-Burma frontier are well along the way to maximum. the bases on the Imphal road are still building. Kalemyo, in Burma, has forts 3 and a small airfield building rapidly. We are pulling as much supply as we can into every forward base to build up prior to monsoon season but the most forward bases still have a long way to go toward stockpiling supply.

Our main hex of attack has been (and is) aimed at the hex just west of Katha. Imperial forces have built up there and more are on the way. Shortly I expect the Imperial armored division with > 400 AFV to arrive there, after moving from the hex just NW of Katha into Katha and then on. Tomorrow our second infantry division will arrive in-hex to join an HQ and a smaller unit which has some tanks. Heavy armor is on the way but moving slowly through the jungle. A number of support units are also on the move.

The transit hex is being moved on by an IJA Rgt. The British 2nd Inf Div will arrive in that hex tomorrow and wait for the Imperials to being attacking them. We have other units moving, including two Rgts early in movement toward Warazup.

We are also early in a move on Akyab as the Empire has continued, and now increased, their withdrawal from that area. The notion is to continue the drive through the jungle as possible (maybe it will stall) to possibly enter the plain from that vector. Looking at RN BB's to deploy to the Bay of Bengal to muddy the waters for continued Imperial bombardments but they are almost all so slow. POW and Repulse are the only ones with decent speed.

In the Pacific, the DB sqns on the fleet carriers reconfigure at the end of February so the carriers pretty well have to be in port at that time. The transports are still on their way back to PH to upgrade the USMC squads, and in roughly 10 days I could begin upgrading USA squads. Currently embarked are 1 USA Inf Div and 1 USA Inf Rgt, 4 Rgts total so the additional delay to upgrade them will be about a week from when the USMC units have upgraded (the transports will not arrive at PH for 3 days and then need to unload).
