WOW! All that power to attack so forcefully those few troops, and not one unit destroyed. Some might be down to a LT, a cook, a baker, and a candlestick maker!

• Two of our batches of 10 subs will arrive at their split points tomorrow just west of the Marshall Islands. A third group of 10 has 3 or 4 days to reach a split point east of Truk, but part of their mission is to intercept damaged Imperial warships heading back to Truk so they don't need to be on station before the fleet is positively spotted as heading into the Marshalls.

New Zealand, Australia, New Caledonia, New Hebrides, Solomons, Papua New Guinea, New Britain

• All convoys report no contacts.

Philippines

DEI, Dutch new Guinea, Borneo, Malaya

China
• Bombardments, nuclear in Chungking.

• Lots of enemy units marching into Paoshan.

India, Burma, Thailand, Indochina

• Meiktila is ours, now moving on Taung Gyi. It's good defensive terrain and has about a division's worth of troops there but hopefully we can crack it before defenses build up or additional units arrive.

• Monsoon arrives in about 5 weeks so we have to grab what we can and build bases as much as possible to boost daily supply caps.

Japan, Korea, Manchuria, Russia

1943 April 08

We attack tomorrow 2 hexes SE of Akyab. Although the terrain is Jungle-Rough the Imperial forces are moving and so a little more vulnerable, certainly without fortifications. The 4EB's and some other bombers will support the assault.

Bombing them will knock them out of movement mode into Combat mode, making them a little less vulnerable! Sometimes you just can't get things to work perfectly!

Well, duh! Thanks for pointing that out.

I think at least they will not even have fortification level 1. Op mode bonus versus what might be a good 4EB strike, I suppose I would do the same thing eve if I had realized what you just pointed out.

But it will cause casualties, increase disruption and fatigue, and increase supply usage. Bomb them hard enough to make it count. Maybe it will balance out or better.

Used all the USA 4EB, including the B-17F just past Normal range, plus I reduced them all to 5,000 ft. We'll see!

I think 5,000 feet is within range of the 25mm AA, so if you are going to go into that range you might as well go down to 3000 to stay just out of 7.7mm MG range. Bomb concentration should be much better with the altitude cut by 40%.

I just checked my Scenario 2 game and 25mm AAA goes up to 7000 feet. So 8000 should be good but 9000 would be better.

Thanks guys. For that group of units 3,000 ft would probably be good because I doubt there are any 25mm guns in the mix. Too late for this turn!

The Wotje convoy is with the Maloelap convoy, while the Roi-Namur convoys are with the air HQ's for all three targets, lagging behind due to less speed and attempting to route around the sub wall.

I just thought that I would let you know. A 25 mm on a ship only reaches to 4000 feet. Probably because the ship is not as normally as stable as the land should be. It does give a different meaning, however, to reach out and touch someone . . .

• No sign of KB. A little worrying, as the sally of the DD from Maloelap signals Imperial knowledge of the fleet's whereabouts. Some DL on our subs give the possibility that KB is a little north of Rongelap. We are sending a 4x Fletcher DD TF to a patrol line which will be 8 hexes from the fleets planned position tomorrow. Notably, that area is just out of search range of our advanced PBY bases in the Gilberts.

1943 April 10

Hoping to leave the enemy subs behind for a day or two. Where is the KB?

You have to worry about the KB in April 1943? Does that mean it is still basically intact? Or did you lose a lot of carriers early on?

One IJN carrier was torpedoed but that was long enough ago it's certainly repaired by now. KB is intact.

He's also got whatever carrier production has floated down the ways, too. My ships are carrying Wildcats. Are you saying I don't need to worry?

Just saying it is unusual for the Allies not to have carrier dominance by now, but then the various mods have changed the climate ....

it's only April 43, if I play PBEM as the IJ and the Allies have carrier dominance then I know I was not playing a good one. April 44 might be a different story, but talking about dominance in early 43, I don't know.

This is before the extremely small infusion of Essex and Independence classes. He is getting a few CVEs but they are only a few for the entire game

I can do the turn in small bites, so the first thing is to decide: do I stay or do I go?

If I stay, do I surge surface forces at the KB?

If I stay, does the invasion of Maloelap go in right away?
