I am unclear about whether the overstacked CVEs that start out with double their nominal complement can actually launch those replacement aircraft with that number of aircraft aboard. I think that would call for a catapult out of the hangar area as the Yorktown class CVs had. If nothing at sea works, try landing one of the squadrons and see if the other will launch the replacement aircraft.

Query:

I have put replenishment groups aboard some CVE's in hopes of bringing various squadrons on the carriers near Marcus up to strength. None of the air groups on the carriers are showing the option to take replacements from the replenishment squadrons like I expect them to.

* The aircraft models are correct.
* The range is only 7 hexes between the carriers and the CVE's.
* I've tried standing down the replenishment groups.

Any ideas? Does the model of the CVE matter?

I'm thinking about putting them on Marcus Island itself to see if that works.

Is the 7 hexes "normal range"? Has to be within normal range and the replacements must be set to be "on"

Repl TF and VR squadrons on any CVE will do the trick - heck the VR squadrons I think work from a land base as well.

I've found that the squadron needs to be short more than 1-2 a/c also. The short squadron should show the ability to manually accept replacement a/c as well. I've done it manually as well as the computer automatically flying in replacement planes during the turn.

Definitely within normal range. The Replenishment TF setting I have to wait for the next turn to try.

I believe that they can launch the aircraft as replacements or even to a land base but they can not operate aircraft on missions. It would be bumper aircraft trying to land them.

These are not overloaded because I pulled the a/c off of fighting CVE's and flew aboard normal-sized R squadrons. I'm pretty sure those overstacked CVE's can launch planes to provide replacements but I know they cannot operate the aircraft otherwise.

How many R squadrons do you get, and do they cover all types of CV planes?

You have replacements turned on with those squadrons your want replenished? Or is it done manually by keyclicks?

I am not sure how many squadrons you get but it is a few and all naval carrier fighters, dive bombers, and torpedo bombers. You can upgrade the various models.

I can be done automatically by having replacements set to on or by manually doing it, if I remember correctly.

Don't forget to have decent pilots for the replacement aircraft since they may also join the air group requesting replacements as well if needed.

No idea how many squadrons, but the do cover all types. Of course models can be upgraded as needed.

When replenishment squadrons work, either manual or automatic happen without fuss.

My practice is to keep squadrons on manual draw for replacements.

Can't because there aren't enough. I just dump any substandard pilots back into the pool as necessary.

They can be halfway decent and continue to train in the VR squadron. That way there are somewhat capable in an emergency. Once you get back to a base then you can swap out pilots.

I am in December 1942 and I have VRF squadrons 1F, 2F, 3F, and 5F (fighters, by the last letter); 1B, 3B, and 5B (SBDs); 1T (TBF). 28 aircraft each.
They came on CVEs Nassau, Altamaha, Copahee and Prince William. There will be more throughout the game.

Oh, yes, I do use the R squadrons for training. I just mean the pilots are not up to front line fleet carrier quality.

Taung Gyi

CHANGED OWNERSHIP

Overall

• No carrier info.

West Coast USA, Alaska, Hawaii

• The IJN shows the flag with a very long range patrol! Even though they both have appropriate escorts, we are lucky a troop convoy and an aircraft convoy both made it through this area without incident the day before.

• BB Mississippi is ready at Mare Island and will head for Pearl Harbor. CV Intrepid will arrive at Pearl Harbor tomorrow; BB North Carolina will finish repairs at PH the day after, CVE Wake Island will finish repairs the day after; 2x CLAA will finish upgrades that day. The 4x CVE which with replenishment squadrons have pulled into Pearl Harbor and will make minor repairs before swapping back in their ordinary complement of squadrons. Tomorrow we will begin loading the assault troops for Pagan.

Pacific

• A group of replenishment carrier squadrons will unload at Wake Island tomorrow to finish topping up the fleet carriers on station near Marcus Island. Also in that convoy is a Corsair carrier squadron, which should juice things up. Due to high supply at Marcus, the escort carriers there were able to take replacements into their squadrons (despite not being dicked), so tomorrow the fleet carriers will move to Marcus and do the same.

New Zealand, Australia, New Caledonia, New Hebrides, Solomons, Papua New Guinea, New Britain

DEI, Dutch New Guinea, Borneo, Malaya

• Now they know our subs are back in their oil pipeline.

Are you waiting for 1944?

No, doing a turn now, loading the Pagan invasion forces as we speak. Was waiting for minor/modest repairs to various warships and replenishment of carrier air groups. Obviously, due to sailing time from PH, it will be 1944 but that was not a plan.

Overall

Pacific

• The recent pulse of enemy subs around Marcus appears to have moved out, but there is a 2x sub TF east of Marcus.

CHANGED OWNERSHIP

Overall

• No carrier info.

West Coast USA, Alaska, Hawaii

• A supply amphibious convoy to follow up the Pagan landings is departing Pearl Harbor. The last CVE finished repairs so the escort carriers are also departing. The last fleet carrier TF will wait one more day for two CLAA to come ready, but several surface combat TFs will get underway now.

• Indiana will be ready in 5 days, Hornet in 9 days so they will join the party but late.

Pacific

• Still no additional SigInt on Pagan. Squadrons on carriers near Marcus are almost at full strength with some but awaiting the next influx allowed. Extra fighters are embarked on some carriers, with other squadrons either understrength or flown off to make room.

New Zealand, Australia, New Caledonia, New Hebrides, Solomons, Papua New Guinea, New Britain

• More supplies unloading.
