Status: offline 		Good job hunting his KB with your subs, the Japanese have so little regard for subs, especially American fleet boats because of the MK-14 torpedo that they expose the carriers for prolonged periods surrounded by what they considered toothless sharks. Nice to see one American and it appears the other was a displaced longer range Dutch one.

Status: offline 		Three weeks pass. An update of sorts.Iven Mackay boarded the train laden with his 2nd Army HQs personnel. Somewhere to the north, newly acquired armor assigned to 2nd Army were being loaded onto flat bed cars for the long trip west. It was cool outside, breezy in the low 50s in Sydney harbor. Before daylight Iven had made a trip to number four pier and gazed out at the super structures of two US Navy carriers which had arrived after midnight. Brisbane reported the American destroyer flotilla had arrived as well and was making quick repairs. All signs pointed to a rapid commitment to the mission.
The XO unrolled the map onto a card table crammed between the bench seats of the car. The train was due to clear the station by ten and Iven wanted a round table before the steady clicks and clacks lured the staff to much needed sleep. The past three days had been exciting but exhausting. The men leaned in, elbows all around. The briefing began with the current state of affairs in the South Pacific and the newly created South West Pacific AOs. The Americans have been stymied for well over a month, their timetable a shambles. Reassurances from Admiral Nimitz, recently promoted to head the US effort in the Pacific, that progress was being made and to expect movement by his forces to disrupt any attempt by Japan to interfere with the 2nd Armies objectives in August was taken with reservation.
Operation “Roo” was the first step to ridding Australia of all Japanese. Liberation from west to east starting with Exmouth on the far northwest corner of the continent had begun. A battalion of militia had reached the Japanese positions on July 30 and proceeded to recon the small IJN SNLF there. Supply had reached Perth from the interior and begun to filter north. USAAF squadrons had arrived as well as Aussie ground support. Fuel would be the biggest issue and is of grave concern. The IJN had already sent cruisers to shell the small battalion twice, once well before their arrival outside Exmouth proper. As far as intervention by IJN naval air, all the Japanese carriers were operating in the Coral Sea with a larger force off the weather side of the Solomons.
The pre briefing current events discussions ended with Southeast Asia. There was no good news. Here the cream of the Australian Army was propping up the entire British and Indian line. What once had been viewed as a chance to hammer on several veteran IJA divisions had been lost near Katha and the real possibility of an Allied rout was in the making.

August 4

Iven and his command are just outside Perth and will arrive overnight. A large IJN cruiser force hit his battalion at Exmouth again last night.

Snipe AO, No spots on IJN forces in the Coral Sea or Snipe AO for three days. I think the smaller IJN carrier force is north in the Rabaul area.
I suppose the KB proper has retired to Truk to replenish her air groups as I was able to thin the herd a bit over Ndeni in two smallish confrontations.
The frequency of sub attacks may be a factor.

Status: offline 		Iven and 2nd Army HQ arrives Perth. The first element of his armor force has passed through Port Augusta. His command detrains and moves to the docks for shipment north. The hope to be driving east from Exmouth by the end of the month occupies his mind. Naval dispatch has good news. The Royal Navy is closing on Perth as well as multiple USN task forces. Now if he could get hold of the mechanized infantry at Alice Springs….
In mid Pacific, Operation Snipe is progressing. Underestimating the garrison on Wake is causing delays but the assault continues. There is no sign of surface assets from the IJN yet, only pesky submarines. I lost a big AK yesterday to an RO which was sunk in return. Supply on the island looks good for now and the transports are ordered to up anchor and make open water to the west. The assault force rested on the 6th and launched a deliberate assault on the 7th, reducing the forts to three and causing heavy IJA casualties. Fatigue and disablements plague the assault force, but they are ordered in again on the 8th.
The big news of the day is in Burma where a depleted Chinese force intermingled with remnants of Burma Corp and reinforced by some Australians decimate an IJA assault on Myitkyina. The line holds!

Status: offline 		You are correct sir. I was sensing a moment. I send the task forces east on the eve of a naval air strike at Wake. In retrospect now
I believe it was only two or possible three carriers. If it was and I had know it, I would have engaged seeking an exchange. I did
leave a big AK and an escort and support ship there as the supply situation on Wake is so so at best and they were pummeled. The
AK went done at the pier and a destroyer was so mauled she went down half way back to Pearl.

Iven sits at RAN HQs. Dispatch from Sydney in his hands, he wonders how his small force is allotted an Army HQ. His armor has arrived to find no transports available. A great deal of Yankee support units has arrived as well and waits at the railhead for transports as well. The naval action off Carnavron during the evening of the tenth deep sixed high value assets including transports small enough to dock there. Unloading was un godly slow and progress building up the base was embarrassing for the command. There was some good news, well really good news. The Royal Navy as well as a couple of the American carriers engaged an IJN surface force most likely expecting another milk run at Exmouth and reports savaging the task force. With the cream of the KB more than 300nm north of the Santa Cruz Islands he knew he had time to get into position to get “Roo” off the ground. If a major surface engagement was in the works he had Prince of Wales, Repulse, and the North Carolina at hand. If the enemy decided on a major naval air scenario the Americans could proceed with “Snipe” at a moments notice. The news from China was bad. Real bad.
