The start of turn 318. Willie has already broken my next MLR. I was going to prepare another line Yellow dashs but I think Willie will be on top of it before it is ready. Willie has 3 choices but with the strength of his army I think he may be able to do all three at the same time.

My choices are now do I pull everything back to the last MLR and use it as a delaying position while I fill every hex within the Berlin area or do I defend the last MLR for as long as possible. I have to hold on for another 82 turns to get a draw.

82 turns seem a lot. Do you think it's possible to hold the Red Tide that long?

I am not sure. To be able to hold out that long I need to keep Willie away from Berlin defensive area for as long as possible. The Berlin defensive area is circle with a radius of 10 hexes and each hex is entrenched to 100%. I already have 2 rings of anti tank guns and 1 ring of arty dug in and approaching 150% supply level. This turn I held back some replacements and started digging them in on the outer ring.

My last MLR is quickly filling out to 2 hexes deep. Hopefully he will out run his supply lines before he hits it. I am setting up delaying positions but at present Willie is overrunning them like a tsunami.

Map notes. "Frankfurt de Oder" should read "Frankfurt an der Oder" or "Frankfurt a. d. Oder". The town to the north would have been named Küstrin (Kostryzn is the post-1945 Polish name.) Also, "Lukenwalde" should read "Luckenwalde", and "Temlin" should read "Templin".

Re: game. Yeah, those are going to be a long 82 turns.

Cheers

Thanks mate

We will correct it in the next version - I think there are a few other places that needs correcting.

Maps are an art. One person will not interpret something the same as another person. You guys have done a great job on yours. Very impressive.

Credit for the map should go entirely to Rick Kesler as he did all the work.

Kristian,

Super! I can imagine with a map that size, there is a lot to check and double-check. I'll PM you if I see anything else.

Lukenwalde

This happens a lot especially in Poland and Western Ukraine. It's understandable that the older names might be used. Lots of nations claimed these places. Loads of interesting history in the eastern part of Germany, Poland, European Russian and the Baltic States.

Wiki:

The former Slavic settlement of Lugkin was conquered by Margrave Conrad Wettin of Meissen in the course of the 1147 Wendish Crusade. Lukenwalde Castle was first mentioned in a 1216 deed as a burgward of the Bishopric of Brandenburg, it was acquired by Zinna Abbey in 1285. Together with Zinna it remained under the rule of the Archbishopric of Magdeburg and its successor, the Prussian Duchy of Magdeburg until it was attached to the Margraviate of Brandenburg in 1773.

Originating in the 17th century, Luckenwalde's cloth and wool factories did not spring up till the reign of King Frederick II of Prussia and soon were among the most extensive in Germany. Other traditional industries were cotton printing and a dye works, brewing, and the making of metal and bronze goods. In 1808 Luckenwalde officially received town privileges.

Turn 319 10 July 1944.

Willie has made a break-in with 2 tank corps (+?) at Thorn (116,330) and is in the process of making a break out from this river crossing. This is a major threat as he could swing south and cut off what is left of AGC and AGS. He could also head west as it is only 35kms to the next MLR that I have started to form and he could roll over the top of it in 1-2 turns.

He could also swing round the southern end that MLR as is it currently hanging on a sky hook and head straight at the last MLR and try to break through before it gains too much strength. As can been seen from the picture I have started making the last MLR 3 hexes in depth. I have also started pulling out all my forces from the south and started filling in the area to the east and south of the Berlin defensive area.

This turn I received another 18 Bns.

Do the Russians have river crossing equipment built in to their units? FITE2 has many major river lines but they do not seem to slow down the Russians. Major river defense is the only chance the Axis has at this point. If they do not slow down the Reds there then the scenario will end well before the time limit.

The Vistula has already been crossed...

It must be victory on the Oder for the Axis!

I have noticed that they have very little trouble crossing at a destroyed bridge hex.

If they need to cross at a destroyed bridge hex and not along the main river, they have limited bridging equipment. That is where the fight must be, at the blown bridge hex with your best units at maximum effort. Make him take it one hex at a time with no retreat at your next major river line. Try to retake the blown river hex as well.

I think your defenses can put up a stiff fight. Good luck.

Willie is driving hard and fast and already on top of the next line that I was forming. Now looks like it will be nothing more than a screen / delaying position. I have been filling the last MLR with units pulled out of AGS and units that I had been using to build the Berlin defensive area.

For the defense of Berlin I am using my replacements and hoping that by the time Willie arrives they will be at 100% strength with a supply level of 150% in 100% entrenchments.

I am not so sure now that I will make it to turn 400 but I will give Willie a run for his money. I do have a slim chance so long as I do not suffer a major encirclement.

Everything that stands its ground in front of the Russian steamroller will not last long, their firepower is overwhelming, Warsaw has fallen.
