I have a sub detected attacking one of my ships. I have one helo on patrol nearby and I go to it and ask it to attack the sub. It ignores me and says it is on its patrol. I use the U key to unassign it from its mission and plot a course for it over to the sub. I then ask for it to attack again and now its status is on plotted course. I try both auto attacks and manual attacks with no result. I launch another helo from another ship with the same results. Not interested in prosecuting the target. How do you get these guys to follow orders? I understand the sub needs to be localised before they can actually drop on it by how do I get them to prosecute a target with dipping sonar or sonarboys? The sub was originally in a very small area of uncertainty which was growing over time. Sub was showing as red so I don't think is it a weapons release thing (which I don't really understand I admit) Both Helos were setup for ASW. IS there a magic word?

Hi

Just check that you have "ignore plotted course when attacking" set to yes in the ASW mission doctrine screen and see if they attack then...

Thanks

You can manually order a SB drop...it is under "Unit orders" "ASW operations" then drop passive or active SBs under or over the layer.
You may also want to just be sure the Helo is ASW armed (a dumb question, but such a basic one that some may have not noticed). Many helos also do nto have dipping sonar, so you can click on it in the database viewer (using the hyperlink when you have the helo selected) and just make sure of that also under sensors.

I think it might have been this

"Just check that you have "ignore plotted course when attacking" set to yes in the helos doctrine screen and see if they attack then..."

I haven't played for a couple of years and I this is a new thing I think. Seems a bit odd an ASW helicopter would be set to this by default but something I will have to check in future.

thanks very much.

In case you miss it in the other thread...

Are you stalking me again? I was already here you know. btw, still waiting to hear from my ISP. Did your ISP ever tell you when I can expect a call?

Again, I would have done this privately, but you seem so wanting to keep it public.

Gaslight you might try. Should I be adding everypost to this list of you nitpicking posters for minor offenses? You are a nitpick for no good reason.

Status: online BDukes, I don't think you mean to come off as dick-ish as you are sounding. I suggest assessing how people are reading your stuff as a point of self reflection. Someone like Apache85 doesn't get involved in internet drama, yet here you are pushing him to do just that. He is a very big contributor for scenarios, peer-based help, and general knowledge. Don't be the guy that makes him not want to help any more. Really, don't be that guy.

My suggestion is go back, read you posts in this thread and maybe use it to get your point across in a different way. Just a little bit of advice who has seen people come into this forum and just plain piss people off through ignorance.

Status: online It actually is clear with some common sense. This is why knowing the game and having some basic knowledge is important. Most weapon systems have ranges that differ if the can attack both air and ship targets. Its important you use the tools you have, the documentation you have, and the forum to understand the game.

In other words, do some of your own work. You are starting to dominate these boards with questions that you should be able to answer on your own. You have to be asked multiple times to put saves up, etc. Try helping yourself a little before posting. There are dozens of people who want to help other players. But making them work to understand the problem and then finding out you didn't even try to help yourself can be discouraging for you and them.

If you want to request a change in the game, go to the thread dedicated to that. Don't bury the request in a 20 post thread with 10 huge graphics. It will be hard for the devs to see it.

Status: online Hello?

Did you post a save of the issue as requested?...no

Did you wait a reasonable amount of time?...no, less than 24 hours, really?

So let's start there. If you are really that impatient, I would think common sense would say to provide as much information and description as possible.

Status: online Yeah, but some of the stuff you are posting would be answered with a little more playing time. Fine if you see some UI issues, but game play issues are different. Making the devs answer questions that can be answered by reading the docs, watching the videos, and play the tutorials should answer a lot of those questions. I thin the devs have mentioned that a couple times. My advice comes from living it and watching others go through the same thing.

I would hope it would be a common courtesy to try and get at some answers yourself through the multitude of resources the devs and the community has tried to provide. I will also point out that coming in with a completely snarky attitude from the get go isn't convincing a lot of people to step in and help.

Note Players response to this!

Again, I'll ask...who is stalking now? I simply pointed out the the feature has been in the game the whole time. He asked?

Do you forget the things you say. Where is this great ISP call I am supposed to get?

Did you now say I was stalking you and now you are popping up in every thread?

Can at least answer those questions to level set before you spin off out of control?

Lot of asking for attention? Perhaps this is why you do what you do. Who gave you hall monitor badge?

Guy, really? You are one giant non-sequitur. You say things are going to happen, you are going to things, etc. At this point its becoming kind of troll-like. Can you do anything that helps the forum? Can you do anything but stalk me? Of course recalling that you for some reason thought I was stalking you.

I usually have a 'hanging' ASW strike mission up that I can just assign a target and prosecuting platforms to with altitudes, sensor settings and WRAs already in place.
