I just came across this in the wargames thread on the steel beasts forum- http://general-staff.com/kickstarter/

this sounds mighty fine and the list of battles that will be available is impressive, it is as i understand it a new version of UMS made by the same person

but perhaps everyone else knows of this already and i am as usual not keeping up with things

Yeah I posted that over at SB but have not followed. Seems that for $50 you get the whole deal now and Kickstart went well. Beta testing at present.

I think Wodin would know more about it as he has a entry in his blog...

Ezra is a really interesting guy with a lot of experience in the AI field. We chatted to him about General Staff a year or so ago so we'll be keeping our eyes on it :)

Thanks Red for posting that, i only just now notice that is you over there in that thread posting also

his backstory is interesting, sad though also regarding the illness and the medical costs involved. I never played the UMS games, but now i might give them a look as it sounds that he really puts alot into AI at least going by his academic work and what General Staff promises to offer

I did the write ups on AWNT. I also bought into the KS.

I believe I bought all of the DRs early games from 20+ years ago. The ideas were great, but computers were not ready for them. At least my different computers weren't.

If General Staff is really half the game it seems to be I believe it will be a game changer.
