May work: http://www.zdnet.com/article/heres-how-you-can-still-get-a-free-windows-10-upgrade/

Just make sure you have no trace of your old OS when upgrading to W10. Better said, don´t upgrade, instead, do a clean W10 install (ovewrite/format). Let W10 ovewrite your OS hard-drive allocation, don´t keep W7 space/files.

W10 had issues because of a upgrade when people wanted to keep what they had installed in W7. Don´t know if they ever fixed that, so on the same side, do a clean W10 install. I have the free W10 version and works just fine, all you get is a watermark on the bottom right and you cant change W10 appearance, beisdes that all is the same (at least for now).

If you updated to Windows 10 in the past, you should just get it through your regular windows update. I just installed windows 10 over a very old windows 7 using the Microsoft Create Windows 10 Installation Media found here . I downloaded it to the desktop, ran the update, all upgraded to Win 10.

I would prefer to keep Win 7 if I were you. For me Win 10 is cool but 7 is more practical and easy to use.

i had win 7 pro on my asus laptop, though as it seems the laptop was designed initially for windows 8 and so had had a downgrade to windows 7 done it it, when i did the free upgrade to win 10 pro i felt i had no end of problems with my existing programs and the new ones and security restrictions and admin issues - eventually my windows 7 os gave up the ghost and somewhat deleted itself when i was just doing a standard disk cleanup, so i had to go reformat and went to windows 10 home (luckily something was still recognised with regard to my earlier attempts to upgrade and so it was free) - now i feel things are mostly good, in particular the admin issues still have some strange rules about them but i can manage things now .

i love old games and so far mostly have had no problems getting most of the old ones still working in windows 10 as i did with windows 7 - in actual fact i have been amazed that now on windows 10 i and with help of Nglide, i have Janes Longbow 2 and Janes Fighters Anthology running perfectly with little need of compatibility settings - i was never able to get Janes Longbow 2 working before in windows 7
