I was about to start my first PvP game when I realized, with some disappointment, that we probably have different versions of WITE. I am currently using 1.11.0, and have no idea about certain new features. For example, the aircraft type of "Patrol" and "EW" is quite new to me (what is EW anyway?).

So it appears my opponent has updated to the new beta patch. My question is, how will that affect our pbem game? Will it function properly? And subject to which rules, my version or his?

Many do play games on different versions but as it has not been tested or developed that way there is always the danger of a crash or corrupted data. Your logistics phase will be run under your opponents version and its rules, his logistics will be run under your version and its rules. For example things like rail supply modifiers and how sappers can dig have been changed - so which rules apply depends on whose version of the game it is when that phase is run.

Note the scenario data remains the same and is from the version when you first started the game - that never changes even when anyone changes their program version.

If you have installed the game from Steam, the switch back and forth between beta is literally one click and a few minutes to update. So you could easily switch quickly between beta and non-beta for different games.

EW usually means electronic warfare - for most scenarios for most of the time I expect you will never see any.

Thank you Telemecus, that's about the most complete answer one can expect

Many bad things will happen, his game uses new plane types which replaced EW and Patrol. In your turn the game wouldn't know what to do with them.

I've been playing with 2 different installs of both WitE and WitpAE (1124 and 1126b) and it works fine. Instal 1.11.1 in one map, install 1.11.00 in another. Remember whom you play where, and it should give no problems.

Yes, if you keep separate installs and do not confuse them :)
