More work on the mountain airbases and some forward progress by Allied troops in China. Kweillin falls, Tuyun is attacked and should fall to Allied tanks soon.

On Sumatra cleanup continues with Medan being taken by the Allies, the last major base with a large defensive force other than Palembang, which will be a much later goal.

The troops for the invasion of Taichu are preparing and loading.

At Kwieyang the sweeps continued and I let a limited strike go in which was happily after the CAP had been cleared. They did some good damage to the fields and the CAP there should be poor tomorrow, and a bigger strike will go in.

Progress along all of the mountain bases and tanks are shooting forward along the central rail and road system.

More air battles over the PI as Allied troops approach Aparri, and an engineer unit shocks across the causeway at Singers opening the bedside just as more troops pile in amphibiously. I'll start attacking once they've all recovered.

Nells ambitiously (and successfully) hit Chikhiang airfield, hampering Allied plans here. I've gotten part of a base force in and some engineers, but all will be precarious until I can get CAP over the base.

The Allies hit hard at Kweiyang and reduce the field to a smoking pile of rubble. Over 150 airframes lost on the ground for the IJ on the day. I'll keep going until everything is wiped out for he next few days.

The battle fo attrition is going our way in the mountains as well. Tsuyung will be hit along with Kunming over the next few days. Chengtu is closed, Neikiang is damaged as is Chungking. Soon there will be no safe base for the Japanese to use to protect the ground troops.

Tuyun is still holding and the tanks might need help from the approaching IDs to take the base.

In the week since Feb 21 the Allies are +2,234 VPs and the Japanese are +347 VPs. That's 6.4:1, so good progress. That doesn't count this turn as I don't have a screen of the info for the ground strikes at Kweiyang.

Some DB Lily's get through the NFs and hit a CVE. Not much damage one though. Apparently DBs don't dive at night? I've seen this in my other game as well. Interesting.

The battle at Singapore begins, and Allied troops achieve even losses with forts lowering to level 6. Looking good, but it'll take a while.

In China Tuyun is taken, and Allied troops march toward the centre and Changsha.

A little DD raid causes havoc in the SLOC through the Sulu Sea on the 3rd. It's so hard to limit these kinds of attacks, even with air superiority and surface patrols. Later in the day some Avengers planted 6 bombs on the little DD, but overall it's a 44:6 VP score for the IJ.

A lot of that was made up for in the air, where both offensively and defensively the Allies won numerous battles. The Allies didn't get less than a 2:1 advantage in any single encounter on the day, and there were well over 20, including shutting down the IJ bombing strikes on Chikhiang. The report shows 184:82 for the day.

The air and sea wars quiet down on the 4th. The bombing campaign against the IJ in the China, Burma and Indochinese areas has gone well. Kunming, Udon Thani, Vinh, Kweiyang, Tsuyung, and Chungking have all been hit significantly enough to potentially shut the fields. There are only a few more small bases to hit and then some follow up on those bigger targets. There is little hope the IJ can compete int eh air in these areas with the Allied ability to target one base off-rail with everything day by day.

Another attack at Singers lowers forts to 5. Good progress there.

Your Air Losses report for March 4th shows the F4U-1D twice, 8 losses in one posting and 7 losses in the other. I am not referring to the F4U-1A shown further down. I don't think I have seen that kind of duplication of aircraft type before. Is it because that aircraft was used by both US and British forces? Or maybe some land-based and some carrier-based?

The Brits typically give different numerical designations to American built planes like Corsair IV.

Kiwis use the -1D, and they are counted separately from the USA model.

Double F4U-1D could be RNZAF + USN/USMC. RNZAF was only other combatant using Corsairs actively other than FAA (which had Corsairs Mk.I/II/II/IV).

It certainly isn't USMC+USN as they are sharing their pools.

Yep. As other have said it's the NZ boys. Also, the Chinese have their own pool of P-51D, the Aussies have their own B-24J, etc.

March 7-8, 1945

The Landings at Taichu commence. There is no bombardment on the ground on the 7th so I didn't know how much was there, but based on recon I attacked on the 8th. The base fell with no problem.

Elsewhere troops are moving into Central China, tanks are approaching Chikhiang, and the area around Swatow will begin to expand soon after more troops are brought in.

Singers forts were reduced to 4, but it was a rough one. Lots of disabled and troops need a rest.

Taichu is a level 7 airfield and that'll be very nice for Strat bombing right away!

I sent the first real strategic bombing raid over Osaka in daylight.

Recon showed only a few fighters, so I took my chance. It worked to the tune of 100k fires! Yes. Good start.

A few more good ground wins. The Japanese are threatening Hue and sending some very large concentrations of troops that way. Not sure exactly how many yet, but I'm diverting some passing aphids that way. They were heading to China, but that can wait.
