Lots of enemy E-boat activity around Formosa and to the east. Mingo spotted a tanker convoy south of Okinawa but didn't get a shot. This is a new area for tankers. I'm sure that convoy routes are being shuffled. Hake missed E Wakatake with 2 torpedoes near Taihoku. Halibut missed xAK Tatuharu Maru near Lomblen.

I shipped almost all of the Chinese fighters back to China and to the capital but no strike. Bad weather may have prevented them from being spotted. I think I'm just starting to see a small effect of more supply in China. It's very slow, and no effect in the north yet, but some central bases have a bit more supply than before. The 500 Burma road bonus helps. Many engineers are walking into China from Burma. They'll be building nearby Chinese bases soon.

APA unloading at Gove will take a few days. The ships are in transport mode and only so many can dock at once. They need to be unloaded in order to pick up an infantry division there. Allied carriers are loitering at Bathurst, next to Darwin, still unseen. Tankers topped off all three carrier task forces.

Saury missed E Hiyodori with 2 torpedoes near Puerto Princesa. Lapon missed SC Cha-43 with 2 torpedoes near Tokara Retto. S-34 missed PB Tama Maru #8 with 2 torpedoes near Kofiau.

Allied carriers still loitering near Darwin, undetected. APAs still unloading troops and supply at Gove. They'll load an infantry division when emptied.

Same old enemy bombing in China, with the daily randomness of some of the locations of the air strikes. Lots of Allied fighters at Chungking, and still not spotted.

Lots of Allied engineers leaving Lashio heading into China. If there happens to be a bridge out on the way, maybe one taken out by bombs dropped from a US transport plane, they can fix it. You know he used to drive a roller coaster.

US subchasers are hunting between Darwin and Babar. They found I-122 south of Babar and hit it with a depth charge and many near misses. The sub was forced to surface, but the ships weren't able to hit it. "Sub slips beneath the waves", but it may not have really been sunk.

Changsha got a lot of enemy attention. Over 100 Oscars swept the town before bombers arrived, with more escorts. No CAP though. Supply does seem to be slowly increasing in China, mostly in the west and central parts so far. The northeast is still out of supply. Other enemy bomber strikes were in China, like every other day. I don't usually mention them.

B-25s hit Chiang Mai, bombing at 20,000 feet to avoid flak. The airbase is moderately damaged. Today we do a maximum effort against Rahaeng, where there are over 70 enemy fighters. There will be fighter sweeps and lots of heavy bombers. A nearby base will be hit with B-25s.

Heavy bombers hit Ambon. An ACM was sunk in port, and the airbase took minor damage. No CAP.

Destroyer Mugford is escorting a CVE from Nauru to Tabiteuea. Both have heavy damage. Mugford sprung a new leak 3 hexes west of the destination, with FLOT damage going from 67 to 82. SYS is 30. Another bad day and the ship is lost.

Enemy patrol boats and subchasers clear some mines laid by sub Trusty on the China coast. It was unfortunate that Trusty arrived there at the same time a big tanker convoy was passing through, instead of the day before. It brought attention that subs were patrolling the coast, and now the chasers have arrived and the minefield is discovered.

F4Us, P-38s and P-40Ks swept Rahaeng. There were 83 Oscars on CAP to begin with. The Corsairs did very well, even coming in first. The P-38s and P-40s did not do as well. Total losses were 26 Oscars for 10 P-40s, 9 P-38s and 2 F4Us. Heavy bombers hit the airfield, finding a reduced CAP. Light damage to the base, bombing at 20,000 feet. B-25s hit nearby Pisanuloke, were there was no enemy CAP, and did moderate damage to the base from 6,000 feet.

6 new aces were created in the sweeps, 4 of which were flying Corsairs.

It's interesting to note that a tanker convoy was spotted at Bangkok. The juggling of enemy convoy routes and friendly sub patrol routes continue.

Status: offline 		Well, maybe the next time that you lay a minefield off China or even anywhere, get some narrowly focused naval search to cover the area. Then long range attack bomber, fighters, and/or self escorting fighter bombers get to play with mines sweeping task forces as well as ASW task forces.

Sub Trout spotted ACM Keinan Maru west of Ambon, but elected not to engage. Too bad. There's no doubt that the ACM is headed from Kendari to Ambon to replace the ACM destroyed by heavy bombers recently. There can be little doubt that there are mines at Ambon.

Porpoise fired 2 torpedoes at PB Kaiun Maru south of Mindanao. One hit but was a dud. An AO was spotted in this convoy.

In an important development in Burma, the enemy has completely left Taung Gyi. Lots of enemy units are now on the jungle trail from Taung Gyi to the south into Thailand. I was a bit surprised by the retreat. Taung Gyi was defended to the stacking limit, and had lots of anti-aircraft guns. I'd moved a big Chinese corp there but moved everything else, figuring that it would be too difficult to take directly. Supply could have been a problem for the Japanese. OPilot may also be wondering where the Allied troops went after being pulled from the line here and in the central Burma plains. My plan is to flank Rahaeng and advance to Tavoy. With supply, all of the enemy units leaving Burma will be back to strength and will probably form a tough line north of Bangkok. I don't really see a big Allied offensive here in '43, but I want to keep pressing.

Status: offline 		If you feel that you can do it, invade Sabang and move along the road towards Medan while also invading Victoria Point to move across and cut off Malaya. While he will rail to the base, have a unit to cut the rail line on each side with another moving in to block the hexside. If it does not work at Victoria Point, it might get a little "Oh Chit!" reaction. So you might need to bomb any units moving on railroads to have them walk.

Status: offline 		I don't foresee much success on advancing towards Bangkok. The enemy has been reinforcing with troops landing at Bangkok. There's another big xAP task force at Bangkok now. At least, any unit sent to Thailand isn't going somewhere else, like China or reinforcing an inner line of defense somewhere.

I-122 was hit by a depth charge yesterday by this subchaser group and forced to surface. The subchasers were not able to hit the sub with guns, but the sub was said to "slip beneath the waves". I doubted it had sunk, and it had not. Today, though, it was engaged on the surface from the beginning. Again, these ships were not good at hitting the sub with guns, but they eventually got some 20mm hits. The sub disappeared from view, but again, I don't think it sank. If it survives, it will be quite a story for OPilot.

East of Vietnam, Grouper hit xAK Kano Maru with 2 torpedoes. One was a dud. Later in the day, Grouper spotted the damaged ship again, unescorted this time. 2 more torpedoes were fired. One hit but it was a dud. The ship has heavy damage but may survive.

Damaged destroyer Mugford is now just one hex west of Tabiteuea and safety. Mugford is currently SYS 32/FLOT 81-67/ENG 27-26/FIRE 0. An ARD is waiting to start repairs on Mugford. There's other ARDs on the eastern coast of Australia, but they aren't busy.

Everything for the Koepang invasion is now loading at Darwin, besides the division already loaded at Gove and now waiting with the carriers at Bathurst.

I have a problem with an APA at Gove. It was in a Transport task force and carried part of a unit to Gove. All of the other ships unloaded at Gove, but this APA refuses to unload at all. I tried transferring it to another transport task force but that didn't help. Not sure what the problem is with it. I'm now sending it to Darwin to unload, but I have no reason to expect it to work any better there. Earlier in the game, I had an AP in a Transport TF with a unit fragment on it. The unit had only disabled squads. I accidentally transferred the ship to an amphibious TF, which the game allowed apparently, due to the disabled squads, I think. I worried that I wouldn't be able to unload the unit, but it did unload.

This case is different. The task force was always a Transport TF. The ship just won't unload. Didn't use any OPs points. The port is plenty big enough and this ship was docked and the only one attempting to unload. But it wouldn't. Not sure what I'll do if it doesn't unload at Darwin. I need every APA I can get, and this one is missing the Koepang invasion.

Transports require a port to unload. If Gove has not built a port yet, it cannot unload. Take the fragment elsewhere, unload it and change it to Combat mode so the AP can load it as an amphib TF.
If there is a port at Gove, the issue may be that the ship cannot dock and there are items on board that cannot be unloaded without docking (e.g. a radar).

Status: offline 		Gove is a size 5 port. All other ships have been unloading fine there, including many ships in the same task force as this APA. The APA has 20 aviation support on it, so that should not be an issue. I've now moved the APA to Darwin to see if it unloads there. It barely got there today, so we'll wait and see if it unloads tomorrow. If it does not, I'll change it to "Escort" and see if that gets it to unload. If not, then I'll change it back to "Transport". I can't disband the TF since there are troops loaded, and the TF can only be assigned Escort or Transport.

I can't think of anything else I could do with it.

Snook missed an E-boat with 2 torpedoes near Cam Ranh Bay. Then Snook missed a patrol boat with 2 more torpedoes. The PB was escorting 2 AMCs.

Normal bombing for the enemy in China and the Allies in the Marshalls. We're going with a big strike of Chiang Mai today. Two P-38 squadrons will sweep Koepang, and lots of heavy bombers will attack.

The invasion armada for Koepang will leave Darwin and head north-northwest. If sighted, it won't be clear yet which end of Timor they are going for. Americal Division on Babar is ordered to start prepping for Kendari. Support troops in various locations are doing the same. Other troops will prepare for Kolaka, west of Kendari.

The armada will be 6 hexes from Koepang, so the naval bombers are ready to attack. There's a surface group at Koepang. It would be nice if the P-38s sweep before the carrier aircraft arrive.

That is strange.
Wasn't President Jackson the transport that, IRL, hit a US mine as it came into Espiritu Santo with Americal Troops aboard? Maybe the AI is waiting for the mine hit ...

PS: I re-read your original report and suspect the port or the TF ran out of ops points for unloading/loading.
The only other thing I could think of was to create a new Transport TF and move the ship into it.

It appears that the enemy is now using a convoy route just off the Vietnamese coast. E-boats are patrolling here also.

The dance steps for the air attack at Koepang got a bit out of order, but the dance was completed. Instead of the sweepers going in first, the heavy bombers arrived first. With 36 Zeros and 78 Oscars on CAP, the bomber losses were heavy. 6 heavies were shot down, with 11 more becoming operational losses. B-17s and B-25s. Some fighters were downed, and a few more were destroyed on the ground. Airfield damage was very light in light rain.

After the numerous bombers attacked, the sweepers arrived. 2 squadrons of P-38s swept, finding a much reduced CAP of just 15 Zeros and 14 Oscars. The P-38s tore into the tired defenders. For the day, 36 Oscars and 19 Zeros were downed. No P-38s were lost. Just a bunch of bombers.

Lt. R.P. Hedman became the first Allied triple ace of the war, shooting down 4 enemy aircraft over Koepang in his P-38, giving him 15 kills total.

Carrier aircraft sortied in the morning, but went after a tiny minesweeper on the northern Timor coast. 36 SBDs with 28 Wildcats sank the tiny ship.

In the afternoon, the carriers launched a large attack on shipping at Koepang.

Considering the number of bombers, almost no CAP, and decent weather, this was a poor result. Many bombers went after destroyers and missed. Most of the TBF went after DDs. Still, some hits were achieved.

Today the armada will veer to the northwest and head towards Koepang. There are subs in the way; there's no avoiding them. It will be interesting to see what OPilot does with his damaged and undamaged ships at Koepang. From the position of the armada, they could look like they are heading to either the western or eastern tip of Timor.

And where is KB? Not known at this time.

A side note: APA President Jackson successfully unloaded its men and cargo at Darwin. Something about a bit of a rebellion on board. The captain, LTJG Douglas A. Roberts, convinced the crew that shore leave would be nicer at Darwin than at Gove. Thanks to Mister Roberts, all is well now.

I-124 found the Koepang armada, but destroyers warded the sub off. I-124 was hit by a depth charge from destroyer Saufley.

P-38s swept Dili but found no CAP. I thought that enemy planes might move there now that Koepang is threatened, but none found. 35 SBDs and 18 F4F-3s attacked Dili from Babar, doing minor airfield damage.

Mitchell IIs from Katherine hit enemy troops at Broome. It was notable that 5 units were seen there, more than I expected. Yokosuka 2nd SNLF was bombed.

3 hexes northwest of Koepang, carrier planes found slow enemy ships fleeing Koepang.

The damaged AG is believed to have sunk right after combat. All of the surviving enemy cruisers and destroyers have left Koepang. 2 more AG are seen in port and are probably damaged.

627 TD Bat
193 Tank Bat
131 Combat Engineer Regiment
I Marine Amphibious HQ
4 field artillery battalions

Almost all of the good APAs are being used. KB is always a threat when its location is unknown, but I consider mines to be the biggest threat today. Roti has to be passed through to get to Koepang, and it could have mines also.
