test pc used, with a fresh install of the latest windows 10 version, windows 10 home, version number 64-bit (10.0, Build 16299) (16299.rs3_release.170928-1534)

so to recap, game works right out of the box with no edited needed in windows 10, im on 1920x1080 btw and game works at full screen, just changed to 1280x1024 in game settings

but game doesn't support alt tabbing in and out, which is only the smallest thing i've found, but apart from this, works well in windows 10.

It doesn't work for me; I just bought the game and can't even install it, when I try to unzip the update, I get a message saying that the file's data is incomplete. Very poor.

I just tried downloading that 2018 patch installer and it appears to have been corrupted. I'm going to check out the older patch as it appears to be the same patch version

EDIT: Just tried to download the 2010 patch and the ftp server didnt appear to find that file. I haven't played this in a while, but I'll look around and see if I have the patch somewhere. You might also try the SSG site and see if the patch is on their site, though I havent been to their site in long time either.

I recall this series of games was quite enjoyable, so I hope you get it patched and running.

Anyway, I got a copy of the update from another player.

I didn't buy this game when it came out, but have heard good things about it, so wanted to give it a spin.

Good glad you got a good patch from someone as I wasn't able to find one. I imagine Matrix will fix issue with the patch file on their site at some point.

So I have installed the game and it runs more or less, but I've encountered a problem: the seems to have frozen, or at least I can't figure out how to advance the game or do anything. Here is a screenshot:

The cursor around the selected unit is spinning, but if I click on the selected unit, any other unit, or any button (including the red button at the bottom right), nothing happens. At all. I can't unselect the selected unit or do anything at all. This is on my first turn :-(

Did you sort this out. I just fired it up and clicked around the tutorial without issue. Except I havent played this is so long couldnt remember much. but I was able to conduct some attacks and resolve them and move to nxt turn. If I recall that red button at bottom on your screen tells me that you attacked somewhere, and there should have been some results shown.

Still working on it...I had some very strange graphics results but am trying various "compatibility modes". When I first ran the game my computer recommended making it compatible with Vista...that didn't work...then it recommended XP...that didn't work. Now I'm trying native Win10 again, we'll see. I also need to try to Tutorial, because so far I'm not getting something...

[EDIT] I've just tested this again under native Win10, after trying Vista and XP compatibility. While sometimes the game will act normally for a brief period, soon enough something happens that makes it impossible to continue--either the problem I mentioned above, or dialog boxes cannot be closed, etc. In short--I've found this game to be completely unplayable under Win10, well, at least if I try to play more than half a turn or less. Very disappointing.

[EDIT2] I just tried to run it one more time. When I first opened the program, it worked fine, I could click on units, open and close dialogs, etc. But then I let it sit open--without doing anything--for about half an hour while I worked on other stuff on my computer--and when I came back when I tried to open dialog boxes the graphics were screwed up and I could not close them. Had to Ctrl-Alt-Del out of the game...again.

Not going to try any more with Win10; if I get bored later today I might try to install on my WinXP laptop and see if it actually works on it.

@76mm I have exactly the same issues aswell. I really like the game but it is unplayable this way... :-(
