Hello,

I have read the guides to the japanese industry and air production and I have a pair of questions that I am finding difficult to solve.

When I switch production from one type of aircraft to another, all the factories are damaged and some dissapear. The only difference between those damaged and the dissapeared ones is that I have to pay some MANPOWER and HI to "recover" them as it was an expansion?

Do the aircraft factories cost 1000 supply to be repaired as the rest of the industry? R&D factories too?

Due to this, when I want to start producing a new aircraft(if I do not want to switch R&D to production), paying in supply and time to convert and old model factory to the new is the only way to afford it?

Example: If I am producing a6m2(60 factories) and I want to switch to a6m3, I wont be producing barely any aircraft for a month and I have to pay 60000 of supply plus manpower and HI to have the same production I had of a6m2

Thanks you very much

If I well recall, the upgrade from the A6M2 to the M3 version is "free of charge", meaning that all the factories upgrade to that model immediately without any loss or "damage", rule being that any version which is a direct upgrade of the older is not penalized.

So,ething I posted three weeks back.

Depends very much on Player Defined Upgrades (PDU) ON/OFF. Basically look at an a/c 'family' tree. The A6M2 upgrades to the A6M2 Sen Baku then too the A6M5b. If you change your factory to the next a/c in line then no damage occurs. If you skip the next inline or completely change to an a/c outside of it's tree all the factories are damaged plus you suffer a approx. 1/3 loss in factories.

You need 10K min at a base to repair and it uses 1K in the process.

There's a number of guides around to help you with a/c production, You could satrt here. http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=3329605

Incorrect. See above plus.

If you want the A6M3 then you have to research it as a new line, that being M3->M3a->M5->M5b at which point the A6M2 and A6M3 lines merge.

The above is of course subject to scenario designer's whimes but is the norm.

Upgrading an aircraft factory happens in two ways.

1. You upgrade to the next in line for that airframe type (Oscar Ib > Oscar Ic). This kind of upgrade will result in no damaged or destroyed factories. All factories will upgrade and be ready for production immediately.

2. You upgrade to an airframe that is a different type or not the next in the upgrade path for the specific type already in production. This upgrade will result in ~1/3 of the factories being destroyed and the rest left disabled, needing 1,000 supply each to repair production capability. So if you want to change directly from Oscar Ic to the Oscar IV, even though they are the same airframe type, you will suffer the penalty. If the later model plane is already researched, you can upgrade incrementally along the path to avoid damaged/destroyed factories. (So going from Oscar Ic > Oscar IIa > Oscar IIb > Oscar IIIa > Oscar IV).

If you upgrade from Oscar > Tojo, factories will always be damaged/destroyed.

It's important to learn the upgrade paths for the airframe types on the Japanese side. Most are fairly clearcut, but there are some odd upgrades on the A6M variants lines, and a few other types (Ki-61 Tony for instance).

Here is the chart. It's long.

Keep asking questions. Not all of it is intuitive, but it's not as hard as some make it out to be either.

(This is also important as you choose which airframes to research. Some can be upgraded directly with no damage. For instance, to get to the A6M5 airframe research as early as possible, start by researching the A6M2-N, which arrives early at 4/42, and thus will repair factories more quickly. When those factories are ready 30 (0) then simply change them to the A6M5 and begin researching that right away, with no penalty of damaged/destroyed factories. This is quicker than going through the A6M3 > A6M3a > A6M5 path.

It's also important to research using factories that are size 30, as it's the most efficient size).
