Hi,

Stock scenario.

When CV fighters use drop tanks, how does the game account for this? Does this use additional sorties, or is it a freebie?

Aside from elevation is there any difference between fighters attacking at 100' vs 1000'? I ask because both attacks seem to use strafing and bomb dropping.

And for the home islands is there any way to manage fuel distribution to keep the industry going? At times I've had enough within the home islands for industry, but I believe that TFs with home island homeports are sucking the fuel away from the industry requirements. For example Nagoya may have 200k of fuel, and it won't distribute it. The only difference I see is that multiple TFs have Nagoya as a homeport. I could have the TFs home port at a small island not connected to the home islands but was wondering if there was another work around.

As far as I know, you don't have to worry about the distribution of fuel to keep the economy going. Fuel-on Honshu and Kyushu-should be routed to where it is needed for HI production, in spite of the large unused volumes present at some of the naval home ports that you've identified.

What I don't know, but suspect, is if you have identified any ports to 'stockpile: on', that may mess up the equation. I think that the stockpiling of fuel may override the natural and automatic movement of fuel to HI centers.

Lastly, are you doing everything you can to get fuel (and oil) back to the home islands of Honshu or Kyushu? An industry outage may be a symptom of insufficient fuel (and oil) getting back home. Or it could mean that you've overexpanded your HI centers and are burning too much to accomodate your production of engines, airframes, armament, armor, etc. etc.

Fuel and supply is wonky at the end game when you start to go short. You are on the right path by assigning home ports...

Re: fighter altitude, IME if you set 1000' feet they will bomb and sometimes some of the planes will strafe. At 100' setting the planes will always strafe, but they are much more vulnerable to flak.

Drop tanks either give you longer range or more endurance-time over the target. They use up (I think) twice the supply if you equip them. And I believer use more sorties but can't swear to that. Most Allied fighters can use drop tanks without affecting their bomb load. Many Japanese planes can only use one or the other. That is, they used center line mounts and could only load a bomb or drop tank on that one mount.

All fighters and fighter bombers set too 1,000 feet will drop down and strafe at 100 feet when attacking. Any setting above that and they level bomb.

Attack bombers set to any height 6,000 feet and below will also drop down to 100 feet for their attacks. Above 6,000 they level bomb. Regular bombers do not drop down but level bomb from the altitude that they are set at. If they are bombing below 6,000 feet then they bomb with only half a payload.

Thanks, and I really appreciate the game vets providing feedback.

I don't have any stockpiling turned on, and I had an emergency fuel run to another theater so the usual convoys weren't coming in. However there was plenty of fuel at two of my ports to run all the HI it just wasn't being dispersed, and I believe all the TFs with those two ports as their home were increasing the fuel demand and not allowing the fuel to move. Getting more fuel into the Home Islands and will probably have TFs use some of the nearby islands as their homeport and send them to the Home Islands as necessary.

As I said, I believe they use more sorties. Someone will have to confirm.

My suspicion is that extended feul tanks drain more of the endurance (feul) of the host carrier. A sortie is a sortie, but flying longer, further drains more of your supply/feul (in this case the endurance of the host).

A hypothesis, as I haven't tested it but is from game observations where I left a Carrier Ftr group on sweep with long range and the host carrier's endurance dropped into the red more quickly than I would have guessed.

Someone said you're at the 'end game', but your post doesn't indicate any game time. So, at what point in your game are you? The responses given would vary greatly dependent upon the time frame.
