So I have been chewing away and FITE2 and a couple of questions have been knocking around in my head:

1) In FITE as the Russians you get a lot of reinforcements arriving with next to no supply now a hole division will arrive on one hex this will normally cause an amber stacking penalty. now while resupplying I have been spreading them out to adjacent hexes where is a railway to removed the stacking penalty. Is this the quickest way to get them supplied or would I be better leaving them where they are? or is the difference minimal?

2) So one of the big things you find yourself doing in FITE as Russians is defending a lot of river crossings so initially I was blowing the bridges and falling back behind the river but the Germans would come along rebuild the bridge and assault over it so now I have started blowing the bridges and holding the hex with them first, am I being daft or does that make sense?

I believe you are using the correct tactic. You're gaining the defense bonus of bieng behind a river, and causing your opponent a delay in bridge building. Optimally,it would be nice to defend the actual bridge hex with an engineer, thus causing your opponent to fight for it.

As for 1) this is almost the fastest way to gain supply. Stack the unit together with a cooperative HQ unit or adjacent to one and it will receive an additional 50% bonus for supply. If no such HQ is available, supply units or supply points will have the same effect.

Well Elmer is doing a poor job as Germans. I have played ccouple of times through 1941-42 with human opponent and it was a whole new experience.
Now I'm playing against myself and it's still more challenging than against Elmer.

As to the Soviet tactics.
1. Blow up everything and hold it if you can. Stack'em up in a 2-3 lines and dig in. It makes very difficult for Germans if they have to cross major rivers with stacked defense. To add more realism you can introduce a simple (warefare accurate) rule. Bridges are only blow on the sight of enemy. This is how it is done in defensive operations. Blowing bridges on a whim is reasonable but it's kind of expolit (normally bridges are held as long as possible).
2. If you want some challange try to be more "historical". Soviets had no comms and their COs where bad. Yet still the basic war rules applied. You must do recon. No one was just sitting behind the front line when being attacked. And you can do some serious damage to Germans especially at river crossings. I was surprised when I launched small counteroffensive on Desna river in early June'41. Not only I was able to hurt the Germans but I have managed to capture a lost bridge and push the enemy out of the city. I blown up the bridge (which was initially captured by Brandenburgers).

PS. German armour and recon in FITE is a bit too slow. I think I'm gonna tweak the values of MP for them to increase it by 10-20% so the Germans could do in game what they were doing historically.

It's a programmed opponent. A human is telling Elmer how to play. How well the programmed opponent is programmed has a lot to do with how well the programmed opponent plays. You could open the scenario editor and 'reprogram' if you wish.
