I recently lost a couple of aircraft whose radars I thought I'd turned off to the ARM version of the R-27 AAM while playing a test of the excellent "Baltic Fury 1" scenario. In a fit of sour grapes at this setback, I decided to test its behaviour in a more controlled simulation.

Sure enough, I found that the missile can be launched against non-emitting targets and will happily home in on them while they evade, even if they are still not emitting. There is no datalink listed for the missile and, in any case, the launch aircraft can lose contact with the target and the missile will still home, so there doesn't seem to be some sort of unlisted or implicit command datalink.

I created the attached scenario to showcase this behaviour. The target F-16 is set to not emit even in self-defence (and has no jammer). Manually launching the R-27 ARM should result in it homing all the way and attacking the target.

Is this a bug, or does Command not model air-to-air ARMs properly? If it's the latter, it's a pity, because the weapon as it stands is completely overpowered - it appears to guide itself infallibly by psychic ability!

I just gave your save a try, and I agree.
The missile guides on the target even when the launching aircraft was removed and I moved the target while the missile was on the way.

I think the devs need to take a look at this.

Thanks Schr75 - glad you could reproduce this. I do hope the devs get a chance to look at this, assuming it's a bug and not a limitation of the missile model.

It's not working, but the problem seems to have mutated in the reverse of the original one.

The missile it's not maneuvering after launch to intercept a radiating older model Hawkeye, and goes into a straight line until it overshoots.

Here you have the testbed, it's all ready only have to run it.
