Good points, BBfanboy. Didn't think of that.

On the other things. Battle plan of Operation Valkyrie.

Singapore: Elite AUS divisions will advance there with lot of supporting units. They will revenge the demise of 8th AUS Div (historically, not in this case, since I never can bear to leave those AUS brigades there in 1941-42, nor 18th UK)

Saigon: This will be the job of West African, Indian, Chinese etc. units with smattering of Brits. This will in game create opposing Viethminh units against them...but it'd not be anything like realistically if Chinese units had gotten there... Just thought it'd be slightly amusing... Considering border war between China and Vietnam 1979, this plan would be outright suicidal realistically.

Basically idea is to take all south Vietnam. Saigon and Cam Ranh Bay are very valuable bases later.

Op Valkyrie:

Didn't see this coming, IJN BB Musashi reported sunk.

This is of course all FOW.

Note that most IJN CVs are still intact. Haven't been able to get IJN into good carrier battle on my terms, they have raided where mine are not.

About submarine operations.

You safe yourself lot of time using following procedure.

1. Make Sub Patrol mission
2. Set react range to 1
3. Click Routing -> Patrol around area (preferably not too close to coastal hexes)
4. Check commander's ratings. If he is a doofus, change. Good ratings are Naval 60+, Aggressivenes 60+.
(Word of caution, sometimes putting overtly aggressive COs into low experience boat backfires..they take more risks than your normal 55/55 day/night crew can handle)
5. Within few turns, go to ships menu, filter in only subs and sort them out by sys damage. My routine is that anyone with combined damage more than 10 (sys/flt/eng) is immediately sent back to repairs. Trust, me, you lose way less boats this way.

If there is so ship specifically assigned to the AR, the ship repair points from the AR will go to any ships that need it. Same thing for the ARD as well.

Are you sure about the ARD? Don't they work only on float damage and not system and engineering damage? I don't have an ARD to check it out.
I know that unassigned ARs pool their repair points into the Port repair capacity.

I have seen where ships were put into an ARD when they are in pierside repair mode. I have also seen where the AR was assigned to a ship on pierside repair mode.

This is getting bit boring...like "clubbing baby seals"..as metafora...

But I'll do some amph invasions and then stop. Vs. AI the early war as Allies in interesting, tho one wants to try all late-war toys.

Really surprised to see Yamashiro still afloat after all that pummeling. Must have a great captain and very experienced crew. I doubt she will make it to a safe port though. Let us know if you see floatplane losses that correspond with her sinking.

As bit real-world history. IJN was pretty good in emergency repairs when it was flooding, but quite sub-par when it was fire.

IJN Yamashiro has not appeared on sunken ship list, so it might have made it to Singapore.

well if they let it flood it would put out the fire, but that might be a case of the cure worse then the illness.

Good example how experienced your subs become if you use them aggressively from start, faulty torpedoes or not. It will pay dividents later.

SS Grenadier is 80/61.

Op Valkyrie Phase IV plan. This should alleviate China supply problems, by opening supply land route from Indochina.

Since it is now official Kamikaze season, Jan 2 1944, here is the situation.

Land route from Indochina to South China has been opened. That almost immediately alleviated South and Central China supply problems. I'll still continue airlift from Ledo to Chengtu, since op losses of transport planes are low, to give some extra. Extra troops AI got when invading Indochina apparently arrived to Hanoi as RTA divisions (?). They got smashed pretty easily and all the area is mine now.

Australians, assorted Indians and Brits are invading Singapore, they are crossing there in Combat mode. Takes bit more time but lowers casualties, since it'll be a shock attack. Unfortunately all my tanks are still in north. Hoping to remove pesky IJA troops from rails, so I can strat move them to Johore Bahru.

Damn! Now things got interesting, my search planes from Midway spotted apparent Kido Butai, 3 TFs, all with multiple CVs. Heading to SE, so apparently towards PH.

Next few turns got very interesting. I have 3 CV + 1CVL in Tarawa, 3 CV + 4 CVL in PH.

Now I know where KB is heading. Unavoidable showdown near Tarawa. I have Amphibious TF, Transport TF, CVE TF and CV TF there. Moving CV TF to deep water to avoid penalties (CVEs don't get penalty being in coastal hex).
