The latest official update does not provide for play by email. I'm given only three options: AI, Head to Head, and Netplay.

How can I play this game via email? OR: Please restore the PBEM option when starting a new game.

It was never there. Designer can't restore what was never there. See Post #24 of this thread:

This game has too many decision points to play purely by email. It is not an Avalon Hill Classic with a movement phase, then a combat phase, then it's the other player's turn.

The land movement phase is one of the few stand-alone phases where the other player has exactly nothing to do. The production phase is just about the only other one.

For naval movement, and every type of combat phase, there is a continual back-and-forth decision process between the players. If you really tried to play this game 100% purely by email, you would soon go crazy &/or quit.

That said, the game can easily be played by email. The trick is to combine email with other types of communication between the players, which is super easy in the 21st Century. The software enforces the rules, and also allows the manual entry of die rolls, so third party dice rolling services can be used - which generate a die roll and emails the result to each player, simultaneously.

For the rest of the details, click the link in Paul's post, and feel free to ask any questions still needed.

Even during the land movement phase, there can be an exceptional situation where the other player has to make a decision. For example: emergency HQ supply just before an overrun of OOS and disorganized units happens...

The fun of this game is that your opponent doesn't get bored while waiting for you to end your turn... The interaction makes this game great...
