What is very rare is that all majors have below 100% nat morale. Evident of the relentless slaughterhouse this match was. I guess Soviet and US morale will rise above 100 within a few turns, but usually at this stage USSR is at about 108-110.

Late September 1943 - The end is near...

Yugoslavia is liberated, Romania surrendered. The Germans are still holding the position near Leningrad but the Russians were able to stop the counter offensive and wait for reinforcements

In the Mediterranean Sea German subs fight a desperate battle. Wherever a German submarine surfaces to attack it is immediately attacked by maritime bombers from UK, Canada and the USA. Thus keeping their supply low and the crew in panic their attacks are no real danger.

And as if that was not enough three US armies captured Italian cities in southern Italy. The Street of Messina is under US control and even Taranto in southern Italy is occupied by US forces.

Russian Morale is boosted by the surrender of Romania and the allied landing in Italy. Italy is now no longer occupying a single town in Africa and with all the US forces securing a bridgehead everyone can guess what comes next. The Wehrmacht is no longer capable of holding of the Russians and it will be even worse if they have to protect their ally.

Here some impressions from the area around Belgrade and Bucharest and some statistics.

Germans try to seize Italy but fail to arrive in Rome before US tanks liberate the city. Italy is free and promises to keep on fighting with the Allies!
Whole Italy from Rome to Sicily is under US control. More and more units arrive every day and the first Headquater is set up in southern Italy.

Army Group North had to fall back. Red Army pushes forward. Remaining parts of Army Group North surrounded. Leningrad secured again after a few battles north of the city.

British capital moved back to Manchester. First convoys expected to arrive in GB with start of 1944. First convoys for three years. Almost no resistance.

The war is over...

After parts of Austria were conquered the USAAF was able to bomb the defending units holding the Reichskanzlei. With Munich already captured US paratroopers were able to secure the area and forced the German government to sign the unconditional surrender.

Paris, The Hague, Kopenhagen, Bruxelles and Vichy liberated... total victory!
The game ended in Summer 1944.

To be honest... I think the game was won when the Red Army started to kill at least one German unit every turn in the are around Odessa. It forced Germany to relocate troops that were needed to capture Leningrad and Moscow. Somehow I was able to take the initiative more often than expected. And of course with GB occupied the US joined so early that the war in Africa was easier to win sooner or later.

Enjoyed it very much and learned a lot again.
