Turn 7. Sep/Oct 1940. Allied #7. British 8th Army. Egypt.

Wavell and an Egyptian territorial overrun and destroy an Italian infantry corps. Wavell's HQ-A then has enough MP's remaining to move back to Alexandria. The British 3rd land move is used to move an infantry corps to Alexandria. Though Balbo's HQ-I and the AA div stacked with him are both disorganized and out of supply, the odds aren't just there for Wavell and the inf corps to attack. Actually, the risk is just too great that both attackers would be lost so no attack this impulse which gives the Italians the next impulse, if the turn continues, to re-establish supply to Balbo.

Note that since the optional rule, isolated reorganization is being manually enforced that if the Italians do not reestablish supply to Balbo and the AA div by the end of the turn, they won't be reorganized them. Well actually they will but I'll edit the game file to disorganize them.

Turn 7. Sep/Oct 1940. Axis #9. Nazi-Soviet Pact.

With 1941 fast approaching one thing that both Germany and the USSR must consider is the impact of year two on their pact garrison ratios. Given current garrisons and marker values, neither side would be able to break the pact in Jan/Feb 1941. However, the Soviet Union is getting closer and this is something that Germany needs to pay attention to.

Turn 7. Sep/Oct 1940. Axis #9. Italian RM & Germany U-boats.

Italy takes a naval and Germany a combine. Both use this impulse to move submarines/u-boats out to sea in the hopes of finding and sinking allied convoys. However, use their naval to attempt to reestablish supply to Balbo.

Italian Coast. French Intercept Attempts. Of course to do that they must move through the Italian Coast, in which the French attempt to intercept the Italians. Only 1 of 3 Italian naval forces are successfully intercepted. The other two continue on to the East Med and reestablish supply.

Turn 7. Sep/Oct 1940. Axis #9. Italian and German Naval Combats.

1. East Med & Italian Coast. Naturally Italy has not desire to attempt combat in these areas and risk supply to Balbo. And of course the allies will when they get their chance as the non-phasing player.

2. Central Atlantic. No sub combat attempted.

3. Cape St. Vincent. Only Italian subs find. So much for the RN getting back to full production. Details on combat later.

4. North Atlantic. No sub combat attempted.

5. Faeroes Gap. On German u-boats find. Details later.

6. Bay of Biscay. Only the allies find. Details later.

Turn 7. Sep/Oct 1940. Axis #9. Italian Sub Combat. Cape St. Vincent. Round 2.

Round 2 only the RN finds the (second) Italian sub group. And, like it's companion it escapes a risk of 2D, A with an abort. The RN had a chance to damage or even sink both Italian sub groups but only manage to abort them.

Turn 7. Sep/Oct 1940. Axis #9. French Navy. RN. Italian Coast. Round 1.

The French battleships and RAF twin fighter group (only) find the Italians and with enough surprise points to: (1) force surface battle, (2) increase Italy's damage risk by 1-column and (3) select the 1 target (i.e., 2 CP's) for destruction, this breaking supply through the Italian Coast to Balbo.

Round 2 searches see the allies (only) again finding.

Turn 7. Sep/Oct 1940. Axis #9. French Navy. RN. Italian Coast. Round 2.

Oh my goodness. On paper the RAF fighter group should have no trouble splashing or aborting the German Nav group. This battle proves that no matter the odds, and air to air battle can go south and this one certainly did.

Round 3 searches see neither side finding.

Turn 7. Sep/Oct 1940. Allied #11. Great Britain Convoy Routes and Production.

Even though the turn continues there's nothing Great Britain can do about previous impulse convoy losses and disruption to their convoy routes. Great Britain got full production for one impulse and lost it the next.

With the chance to destroy Balbo, I would have sent as much naval gunfire support as possible to the Eastern Med; with that I think you would have had good odds to attack him.

With all the areas that the RN had to cover and the disposition of their forces at the start of the turn, they put everything they could into get into the East Med. Don't worry though, Wavell and his 8th army will likely get another crack at taking Balbo out. Stay tuned for how all that worked out.

Turn 7. Sep/Oct 1940. Allied #11. El Alamein, Egypt (1/2).

General Wavell and the British 8th army designate Balbo and the remnants of his desert army for land combat. CRT choice lies with General Balbo. Balbo elects to fight a blitz for the ~25%, or 1 out of 4, chance that Wavell and his HQ-A will be lost due to no other until, except Wavell, available to take the first loss in a blitz.

Turn 7. Sep/Oct 1940. Allied #11. El Alamein, Egypt (2/2).

Balbo (barely) survives. However, Great Britain decides to retreat him and keep him in Egypt instead of shattering him and letting him escape.

Unless supply can be restored before the end of the turn, Balbo and the Italian land on the border will remain disorganized.

Turn 7. Sep/Oct 1940. End of Turn. Great Britain and French Production.

Owing to 1 save oil point (already) in London and a second oil point being routed from North America to Great Britain, Great Britain was able to get full production, save/use for reorg all oil resources and leave only 3 non-oil RP's idle. They accomplish this only by the skin of their teeth.

Turn 7. Sep/Oct 1940. End of Turn. Production. Italy.

When it can time for Italy to do her production, it was discovered that the Germany to Italy trade agreement for 4 non-oil RP's was never signed. The impact was that Italy's war production remained anemic.

To compensate for the error in not having a signed trade agreement and the impact on Italy's war production, German in addition to the 4 RP's that it will send Italy will provide Lend Lease to Italy of 2 BP's for the next two turns after this one.
