Turn 16. Mar/Apr 1941. Allied #1. Great Britain. Free French. Operation Leapfrog. The British combine and French naval were taken in order to conduct Operation Leapfrog, which turns out is a flanking invasion of Palermo to be carried out by the Royal Marines corps and the 1st and 2nd British infantry divisions, recently rebuilt from their loss in establishing the initial British beachhead on Sicily. British wargame planners put the success of this operation at somewhere between 70 to 85%, which is far from certain. So far so, that British wargame planners gave consideration to at least two other invasion sites, which were in the southeast corner of Sicily. Sites that gave much higher odds of getting ashore. However, the problem with these alternate sites was not getting, but staying ashore and being in position to make a real contribution to the conquest of Sicily. While Operation Leapfrog is really a flanking invasion instead of a "leapfrog" invasion, the operation name was kept in order to confuse any axis spies who might have gotten wind of the operation through poor OPSEC on the British or French side. Free French and RN Naval Moves. (1) Free French Transport at Cagliari, loads the British Royal Marine corps on the Coast of Sicily and moves to the 3-box off the Italian Coast. (2) 2 RN CV's, 2 BB's and 3 CA's move from Malta, 2 of the 3 CA's load the 1st and 2nd infantry division out of Sardinia and move to the 4-box off the Italian Coast. (3) 8 Queen Elizabeth Class battleships sail from Malta to the 3-box off the Italian Coast. These forces join with 2 RN CV's, 1 BB and 1 CA already on station there from the end of last turn and the loaded French transport that just moved out there.
