Japan. IJN. Batavia, NEI. Japan successfully captures Batavia through a surprise amphibious invasion. The question now is if these invasion forces can successful move on and destroy the NEI Terr defending the 2 oil points at Palembang before being able to destroying 1 of the 2 points (before surrendering).

Japan. Southern China. With Japan active everywhere else, they just didn't have the resources or forces to push against the Nationalist Chinese too. So, they pull back a bit to establish better defensive lines.

Japan. Production. Japan's production is at 100% and their oil situation is extremely good. Now if only those isolationist in the US continue to be successful. Isolationist that are funded covertly by Japan and Germany and are infiltrated by Japanese and German agents and sympathizers.

Good executed Japanese surprise impulse. But Uncle Joe is a fool! Why save oil points in cities so close to the Japanese border? The Japanese are always struggling with the oil consumption so one should prevent giving the Japanese any oil points. Aren't there cities in other places of the USSR available to save oil anymore? Jakutsk and places like Stalinsk, Tashkent and Samarkand are far, far away from any Axis unit and if the Axis get there after all, well, the USSR has lost already...

The historical Japanese debated long and hard between “Nanshin-ron” and “Hokushin-ron” - expanding to the north or to the south. Hitler’s and FDR’s decisions made them pick “South.” These Japanese picked “Both.”

The fault actually lies with his minister for oil storage, who wasn't pay attention. While the lost of 1 or even 2 oil points would have been a regrettable but forgivable oversight, the loss of 7 oil points, 6 of which were stored in Vladivostok, was a grave crime. While a forgivable oversight might be only punished by exile in Siberia, a grave crime such as this was punished by a swift execution of the minister and his family. While premier Stalin is a tolerate and forgiving man, he does have his limits.

"October Surprise". That's what the captured Soviet sub flotilla will be called by the Japanese. I think the name is quite fitting and ironical.

It's funny how US entry has gone this game. As the allies, I tried to minimize impacts on US entry in order to quickly as possible to first get option 34 (Pass War Appropriations Bill) and then get the US into the war. But whatever I've done has had the opposite. The US didn't get option 34 passed until Jan/Feb 42 (I believe) and it's Sep/Oct 42 and the US is still neutral and having a 30% chance of remaining so in this upcoming impulse.

Also, this strategy still has 2 oil and 1 non-oil RP flowing to Japan from the US. Even at this late date and with all that's happened. Coupled with the Soviets losing an entire front, including Zhukov, in and around Moscow by waiting to long to retreat, or was it by brilliant axis play , and the Soviet Union is on ropes. Or maybe they're already on the mat being counted out.

No matter, this has been and still is a fun game.

Turn 18. Sep/Oct 1942. Allied #3.

US Declaration of War on Japan.

UNBELIEVABLE!

For the second time in as many weeks, President Roosevelt fails by a handful of votes of being able to get the US Congress to declare war on Japan. While the US Senate approved a resolution for declaring war with Japan by a vote of 42 Yea to 40 against, the US Congress failed to pass the resolution by a vote of 188 Yea to 200 against.

Actions. Free France - naval, Great Britain - land, USA (neutral) - combine, China - land, USSR - land.

Northern China. communist Chinese. Still reeling a bit from the loss of Sian and the invasion of the benefactor (i.e., the Soviet Union), Mao and his forces set up their defenses in the foothills and passes of the Kansu mountain range. It's also worth noting that a Nationalist warlord army and a Nationalist cavalry corps aid Mao by protecting his southern flank. This aid is also a bit self-serving as protecting this flank also defends the northern mountain approaches to the resource rich Chengtu valley region.
