ORIGINAL: brian brian My larger point was that ops in Syria, Italy, and North Africa (exactly zero strategic gain there, since Sardinia and Corsica are already in Allied control) will not distract the Wolf from finishing off the Bear. If Uncle Joe goes down, it is time for the western democracies to start practicing throwing the I-Ching before the Man in the High Castle. Sauron actually has more delicate Soft Underbelly spots than even Smaug did. The mountains south of Rome are not one of them, though it is a good accomplishment to have knocked his side-kick Saruman out of the war already. Brian, thanks! I was just having a bit of fun with the FDR elections thing, understand and appreciate what you're saying where the Western allies should turn next. I thought about your comments and Western Allied strategy over the past few days. In the end, when I'm acting as the allied player, I have to (for better or worse) go with a strategy to which I can fully commit. And the one right now that I feel I can commit to is taking out Syria and the rest of Vichy France, taking out Iraq, commit to bombing German oil and link up with, and help, the Soviets through the Middle East. I also feel this strategy gives me a hedge against the very good possibility that Germany will align Turkey.
