Why weren't the Allies given the option of naval combat in the Black Sea? The Axis has naval units there, and the Sunderland is not disrupted, so the Allies should have been given a shot, but I don't see the option on your choose naval battle form.

They were given the option. I just forgot to post it. Here it is. Thanks!

IJA. Southern China. Even though there's only a 40% chance of fine weather in the North Monsoon next allied impulse, Japan still needed to use all three of their land moves to protect as best as they can against a potential allied amphibious invasion in this area.

Ouch. Was that CP the only Axis CP on the Black Sea? How about the Med? They own Turkey, so could sail one through the Bosphorus?

The Germans are in deep trouble on the Eastern Front.

Ukraine looks wide open, and railed units won't save the Germans, since they are disorganized. For that matter, Belorussia looks wide open, too. The only supplied units that I can see for the Axis on the eastern front are Rumanians who can't leave Rumania and some force valiantly defending the Pripyat marshes, which is the place in Russia that least needs defending. Those latter forces should break either north, south, or both, and defend places that the Russians can actually march through.

Railed units won't save the Germans, but they should send some, someplace, on the theory that they can't hurt. Rumania might be the place, as they could combine with the Rumanians already there.

One question: Is the Finnish HQ in supply? If so, how? The status dot looks like it is in supply, at least on my screen, but is surrounded by Russian ZOCs and Russian owned hexes to the south and west, and to the north there are no rail lines to trace to.

OK, I posted the preceding comment while you were posting.

The Finish HQ clearly was in supply. How?

Also, how were all the forces east of Kerch in supply?

Lastly, why on earth are the Axis forces in Persia in supply? The Russians could easily cut the rail lines through Turkey that the Germans are using to supply them.

Khan! He never has any luck fighting the blond dudes, loses every time. But if his Russian masters had just given his ponies some anti-tank rounds, he might have immobilized the last mobile German force in der Ost.

Little about that impulse made sense from a Supply rule point of view, in numerous locations.

The Finns were in supply from the rail hex north of the Svir River. The first hex tracing north from the HQ is still free, because that was along a rail line. Then four hexes to reach the rail on the Svir.

The Germans were fairly slack in their occupation of Russia; air-mobile Soviet formations could be exploiting forgotten landing strips all over the map.

Still no idea how anything on the Black Sea coast is in supply.

Nevermind, I see it now. Balbo railed in to the lower Dnepr, and there is a rail link across Kerch.

I missed how the Finns got in supply. MWiF is smarter than I am. That one rail hex was key.

Balbo has nothing to do with it; you can't trace a rail supply to an HQ. However, by jumping from the Sevastopol rail line to the one SW of Dnepropetrovsk (one hex) Manstein can trace (two hexes) to the rail net around Krasnodor. By taking the vacant hexes SE of Dnepropetrovsk and SW of Stavropol the Russians can change that to three and two, putting Manstein and the forces south of him out of supply. The Germans might be able to get him back into supply in their movement phase, though.

(Balbo does, of course, put the German unit next to Sevastopol in supply, but the Rumanian next to that unit can't trace to him.)

And the Russians should be able to put the Axis units in Iran out of supply easily.

Ahh, any four hexes, again. Since Balbo is on a rail hex, his HQ makes no difference.

Still can’t figure out how Axis Persia is still in supply.

I wonder where the Rumanian CP aborted to ... and where the Turkish one is. Or if Vichy has a port left in N. Africa?

Fascinating battle all the way around, thanks Ronnie. This weekend I almost made it to my copy of CE all set up about a 2.5 hour drive away. Alas, my beat up old truck operates with about a 10+ notation on the front of the counter, and I rolled at least an 11 or so on a pair of six sided...

Axis Persia is in supply through rail lines in Turkey. At one point, at least, they had to hop the rail for two hexes, but the Russians have refused to cut that line, which they could have done trivially. The unit that could have done it has moved elsewhere, but I think they still can.

Hey guys! Thanks for the comments. I've sure made a mess of the situation for both sides. My simulated war is a messy one with both sides making mistakes and getting troops over extended.

quote:

The attached screen cap shows the supply route for those forces.

quote:

Ouch. Was that CP the only Axis CP on the Black Sea? How about the Med? They own Turkey, so could sail one through the Bosphorus?
The Turkish CP was sunk last turn. The Romanian CP is the only one they have left.

Don't know if there's a bug or not. I reloaded the game to get the supply route and now it's showing all German and Turkish forces in Persia as out of supply. I thought the reason they were in supply was because Germany liberated Persia. Doesn't that make the Tehran, the capital of Persia, a primary supply source for German. Not sure about the Turkish HQ unit though.
