In for a penny ...

Fire the 105's in defensive support. The LeO 451 flies to the aid of the attack in France, escorted by the 3 fighters.

The fighters bug out. Land the two 6 range ones back at Paris and the D510 on the west side of the Seine if it can get that far, thanks.

If I use my AA now is the unit unable to take part in the attack?

Looks like I can use it.

Edit: If an AA unit uses anti-aircraft fire, it becomes disorganized at the end of the step. If firing against aircraft providing ground support, the AA unit becomes disorganized after the Advancing after combat step (see 11.16.5).

Land Combat (cont):

Defending HQ Support fails (a 6 is thrown)

As usual I will take the attacks in the order they appear. So the attack in Northern France is first.

The attack is 2:1+4. No fractional throw. The land combat throw is an 8(12). The French lose two units and are shattered. I convert to retreat.

I assume the AT and INF are destroyed.

The next attack is in the Alps and is a 2:1+1 with the French having the choice of table.

What do they choose?

Yes, good assumption.

In the Alps, the French choose assault.

Once again there are no fractionals. The land throw is a 9(10) and the French lose 2 units. All attackers are disorganised.

Land Combat (cont):

The third attack does have a fractionals throw and this succeeds (828 is thrown) and attack is 4:1+1. The land combat throw is a 10(11) and both defenders are destroyed.

The Japanese move into the city and the US are horrified (a 2 is thrown) and a chit drawn.

The final attack has to be assault otherwise its automatic. The fractionals succeed (129 is thrown) and this makes it automatic (although the throw was a 6 anyway).

Warspite,

You're dice for both ground strikes and land combats are on fire! They're as hot now as they were cold at the start of this game.

I noticed this AAR recently jumped from Jan/Feb '41 back to Mar/Apr '40. Quite a brilliant move .

So are we in '40 or '41?

M/A 41 Allies 2

No DoW or alignments.

Land: CW, France, China
Combined: The rest.

US pulls a couple of CP's back to Pearl and sends a CL to the East Coast 4-box.

The Soviets move some of the reinforcements in the south towards the border.

The Chinese make some minor adjustments.

CW move a MIL, INF and AA further west along the desert coast in Egypt. In Ethiopia, the 2nd INF Div enters Addis Ababa and captures an Italian supply unit. Forces in Somaliland move adjacent to Djibouti. The BEF retreats to Boulogne with Gort in Rouen.

After much deliberation, the French declare Lille an open city and retreat in order to shorten the lines.

Both French HQ's reorganise various land units.

The weather comes to France's aid.

Declarations of War and Alignments: None

Japan: Land
Germany: Land
Italy: Land

Port Attack: None
Naval Air: None

Strategic Bombing: None
Ground Strike: None

Rail Movement:
Germany

The Germans pull two units out of Yugoslavia and move them to the Franco-Italian border.

Land Movement:
Japan

Japanese forces move northwest from Nanning toward Kweiyang.

Germany

The weather stalls the proposed move out of the Ardennes and attention turns to Lille and environs. Lille is taken but the Germans do not have the manpower to both capture Calais and put sufficient troops into action to the south of Lille given the 2-column odds shift. All energy is therefore put into attacking, leaving the port in Allied hands.

Italy

Not much doing here - an INF moves toward Zagreb.

Land Combat:
Germany

One attack is ordered in France. The odds are 9:1 - lowered to 7:1 and so a blitz is possible (automatic attack). The two French units are destroyed.

M/A 41 Allies 5

No DoW or alignments

All combined except China; land.

US sends 2 CP's to West Coast Clarion and Christmas Is.

Queens take Montreal MIL from Halifax to Cape Basin 1-box. TRANS at Malta take Wavell to Suez.

French TRANS brings Dakar MIL to Biscay 0-box.

Soviets move 5 units in the south and INF HQ in the north. Minor adjustments.

Wavell moves to west of Alex and MIL and INF move SE of Bardia.

France brings 105mm back to Paris and sends the 75mm AA guns forwards.

Dakar MIL disembarks to St. Nazaire.

No combat, rebases or reorgs.

This will please the Axis.

On a 10, the weather turns fine everywhere.

A MIL is railed to Copenhagen

Land Movement:
Japan

The Japanese troops in the south move deeper into the country.... while in the north there is more consolidation going on

Italy

Some more tinkering in Italy and Yugoslavia to no real purpose

Germany

The Germans manoeuvre for an attack southwest of the Ardennes. Calais is taken.

Land Combat:
Germany

There is just one attack announced. The odds are 4:1+6 and the Germans choose the Blitz table. The Fractionals fail (a 423 is thrown). The land throw is a 9(13) and 2 French units are destroyed. I convert to retreat.

Which unit do the French want saved?
