I am using one of my two monitors.
I declared one land combat with air support, air support went through
I advanced into "combat resolution.

The combat is not automatically chosen

In a different game I initiated two combats without air support
I could not choose a combat. (that is nothing happens clicking either the attacked hex nor the attacking units, I also see no pop up window, not menu option)

I freshly installed the game from the CD, updated to the matrix download of 2.07 and applied the 2.95 patch

AFAIK, the correct install order (if you want to play v2.9.5) after installing from CD is to download and install v2.9.4 and then dowload the 2.9.5 EXE and swap it with 2.9.4 EXE.
I don't know if you need to install v2.7.1 first (before v2.9.4), but I 'm sure it won't hurt if you do.

Installing v2.7.1 and then swap the 2.9.5 EXE might actually hurt your game (?).

What do you mean with combat is not automatically chosen?
It is not supposed to be chosen automatically. Player input (choice) is required to make it either Blitz or Assault.
But I guess your installation went wrong with conflicting versions (v2.7.1 <=> 2.9.5EXE).
If everything is going well, you need to see a list of declared attacks at the top left in the window. You have to select one and then click on the "OK" button (or whatever it is called, I forgot) to proceed with this combat. After that, you also have to make a choice between Blitz and Assault (and click an "OK" button to proceed).

Hope this helps.

For the first one possibly the window where you select which combat to fight is "hiding" behind another. See if you can move the windows to check what's behind or try ALT-TABing a few times.

For the second one, is it possible you were executing a naval action? You can't declare land combat in a naval action. Another possibility is you were acting at the time as one of that sides' players that did not have units in the combat. You would have had to switch back to the other major power to declare the attacks.

Your saved game shows it as having been created using version 2.7.1.0.

It loads and runs fine on my computer (running version 3.0.0.0). It comes up displaying the Combat Resolution form. I don't think the problem is with the version you are running.

For what you describe, I am guessing that the Combat Resolution form is not appearing/visible. It came up on my monitor as soon as I restored your saved game. A screen shot of your monitor would help us understand what is happening on your computer. It would give us dozens of indications about what the program has done/is doing.

That's the best help I can give you at this time - without more information.
