Two quick questions (one relating directly to UV, the other not):

1. If I assign DM types to an invasion task force, will they clear mines or do they only lay them? I know DMS types and MSW types will, just wondering if the DM will add to that or if it is only a minelayer.

2. Can anyone recommend a good (preferably one volume) biography of Admiral Ernest J. King? Preferably one that's been written fairly recently (80's or 90's).

1. Not sure. Don't know enough about UV yet.

2. Master of Sea Power: A Biography of Fleet Admiral Ernest J. King by Thomas B. Buell

Excellent book Ernie King was a very hard drinker and worked just as hard. The book is actually very interesting and I enjoyed it.

Funny I asked this same question just recently and I was answered very informingly by one of the members. I am embarrassed at not remembering his name. Anyhow a sweeper and a layer in real life could perform either function but only in certain classes. In UV it was simpler to make it a discreet function: a sweeper sweeps and a layer lays. As a player we would be at a loss to remember all the classes and their capabilities. There were actually many classes of sweeper and minelayer.

DM is "Destroyer Minelayer" and thus it put mines and does not
clear them.

Please note that DM TFs must be on "Retirement Allowable" for
it to lay mines (and in" Mine Warfare" TF).

Aside from DMS and MSW, you will also see destroyers clearing mines too. However, it is a much more limited thing and the DDs are more prone to hit the mines, but they will clear them.
