Nader Elhefnawy, who composed one of the best essays on the rise and fall of the technothriller, has released a full book on it, from its origins in the 1600s (really) to the "invasion novels" of the late 1800s to Red Storm Rising to the present.

I've also reviewed it. While I have the inevitable quibbles, it's an excellent history.

Has anyone ever run across Russian techno/military thrillers? Same genre, but where the plucky/tough Russian outwits the evil Americans.

Red Army by Ralph Pieters has a Soviet victory. If I remember correctly the Soviets superior use of computers for logistics support helps win the day.
