So I have been trying to track down the answer to a question that came up during my current Allied Campaign 100 first turn plotting concerning transport ability to load and haul multiple cargo types.

Since there are some transports that have specifications that allow both Cargo and Fuel onboard, is it possible to load both Cargo and Fuel for a given Taskforce ship that supports both at the same time or concurrently?

In other words, can I load both supplies and fuel prior to leaving port for a destination? Or do you have to choose one or the other to load? I haven't played around with one of these "dual load" ships yet as work has kept me busier than a one-armed paperhanger.

If the fuel is available the ships that readily load both will load both unless you tell them not to.

Those ships can be quite annoying. If you're using them to transport resources from a place that is also an oil source, they are positively wonderful. In most other instances, if you don't ride close herd on them they may do things you'd rather they didn't.

For an xAK that have liquid capacity, tell it to load supply and it will also auto load fuel into the 200ish space available for liquids.
I think if you tell it to load fuel it will load barrels of fuel into the cargo hold (with volume penalty) and liquid fuel into the wet hold.

It is my impression that those guys tend to catch fire really easy when they get hit while carrying some fuel. And burn away more frequently than your usul supply transport. I try to avoid carrying fuel/oil in them except on very safe routes

That last part sounds like you are talking about a wife with your credit card ...

You can divide the cargo/fuel load if you start loading cargo and the next day checks how much there is onboard. If it isn't fully loaded with cargo you can switch to fuel. Of course, in a large port it may have been fully loaded with cargo in one day but in a smaller port, or not docked, you can control the loading mix in this primitive way.

And vice/versa.....

Whatever you do, I hope you do not use xAKs to haul fuel.

Many of the ships planned for the Philippines late 1941 carried drummed fuel. Picture below is one example:

An early scene in the movie Mr. Roberts had the cargo ship loaded with drummed fuel. When a Japanese strafing attack punctured one of the barrels, one of the crew (Mr. Roberts?) has to crawl over the top of the load trying to find the leaking drum. Must have been a Nate or Claude that strafed - a Zeke 20mm would likely have ignited the load and shortened the movie considerably!

Interesting stuff on that list Leandros!
Note the 120 aircraft carried by AKV Hammondsport! In game we can only put aboard one squadron! Even xAK Mormacsun carried 68 aircraft!

The arrival of xAP President Polk nearly a year before she departed was also remarkable!

Given that those were drums with aviation fuel it counts as supply in game

It was only to show that drummed fuel on cargo ships (you may call it supplies, if you like) was a viable - and used - method of transport. Even early in the "game".

Maybe there should be a third cargo item in the game - POL.

Nice chart, Leandros! It's nice seeing printed logs of drums being used. Another book on the buy list!

The chart is taken from Glenn Williford's bok Racing the Sunrise. In my opinion a very good book. It is only one of many such charts in the book.
