all units have all attack values and all defense values.
How does these work?
For example
When Corps unit moves and attacks Garrison unit.
No terrain effect.
Only attack values and defense values.

Garrison
target type soft
attack values soft 1
defense values soft 1
attack values hard 1
defense values hard 1

Corps
target type hard
attack values soft 4
defense values soft 3
attack values hard 1
defense values hard 1

Without terrain I think it is:
Defender losses = readiness * attacker value against armor type
Attacker losses = readiness * defender defense value against armor type

Entrenchment and terrain bonus reduces this by their values * readiness. Upgrades negates each other out. So if both get +1 from upgrades they both get +0. Experience further reduces losses by 1 for every 3 stars.

Several other factors play a role. IE, tanks get -1 to their defense against all types of infantry in an urban area.

Most of this is described in the excellent manual that goes into great detail with examples.
