been a while since I have commented on Toth .
Not that I don`t play most of the scenario`s.
but beers , me , and social media , can often be a bad combination :)
I wasn`t far of the start of the game , others were around longer , but I still remember the excitement .
it was a game that many had great hopes for .
we all knew that it would take time , one developer with a few dedicated helpers , and a community that wanted to
be part of it :)
But the demands placed upon those above , meant the direction of the game may not have been the what was intended
The more we wish for the less playable it becomes to the average joe ,
yes , maybe SL/ ASL could be replicated but without the human opponent could a programme do that ?
ToTH has done an incredible job
But lets not go back to ASL where it was hard to find an opponent , and harder to finish a scenario.
Beer , Pretzels , with a fine drop of the $4 wine , something you could knock over in a night ,
For Toth to have a reach into the community , it needs to be accessible ,
long range fire . 1/2 power . does it matter ? , a lmg shoots roughly x squares , should you come into that well good luck:)
give the MG x squares , I figure instead of 1/2 power maybe give it more range or something the AI can do
It is a great game that doesn`t need to be overly complicated ,
Peter and crew are doing a great job , and should the demand for extras take their focus away , their vision suffers
and btw ,
Hi RICO

If there is one thing that really hits me on the system, it is to reduce the games on the second world war to SL / ASL. Any player knows that you must not run in front of a machine gun and stay frozen under a bombardment ...
In short, the merit of Toth is not to simulate at best the Second World War but to have brought us a beautiful kebab of black sheep wargamers,

Given the right circumstances and time line, wolf is not a bad thing

just touching on my comment above :)
nearly 2 months since a general comment - 16th august
a couple of nice scenarios and aars.
and by far the most telling post was how is peter ? - 5 responses
that post alone would have been flooded .
why hasn't it ? , because many have left .
not due to your vision , but I would think in the direction , ASL died due to maybe 10% of the game actually getting completed.
I know all the input from some great ppl has been incredibly helpful ( u know who you r ) . but it has led down the ASL path.
And ASL died 30 years ago , apart from the dedicated , and those who fantasised ( me) , it is a new era , we don't want to read a rule book that resembles a bible.
we like to click and point , it can still be very complicated , but we like to finish it .
I may be totally wrong , but lets go back to how is peter "? - 5 responses , I think that should tell you how healthy the game is , Lets stick to the ASL rules no one every understood unless they had a degree :)

If I couldn't complete more than 10% of a TotH scenario, I would be upset too.

The starter kits for new players become the new Bible.
And the 5 answers are:
faith, wedding, baby, job and new game.

hey hailstone
wont argue over how many I complete :) I do enjoy all the scenarios , win or lose .
the point is the closer you get to ASL the more participation drops .
I feel that is shown in the lack of forum conversation ,
I`m sure you don't engage in the forums as much as you did .
why ?
not so many ppl to read your comments or tips
and more importantly very little response .

fuselex, I don't get it. Lamenting about the difficulties in playing ASL when TotH clearly provides
the best way to play an ASL-like game doesn't make sense. TotH alleviates the tedium of constantly
reading the manual and doing calculations so by incorporating more ASL into TotH the game would
be hugely enhanced. Also, losing participants in a forum after years since the release of TotH is
normal. All titles go through that. The best way to avoid that is by introducing new features to keep
the game fresh. You are arguing the opposite.

Well, when one of the owner's of MMP (who has a license for ASL from Hasbro) shows up on the forums here showing interest in moving the game forward and they get very little response or acknowledgment, I don't hold out much hope for this game going any further than it already has. Just my 2 cents.

True or False proposition, for this game, only Peter and Paullus ways are interesting for me.

Sorry folks, since the late summer I had a series of family and work issues that kept my away from the forums. I hope to be back soon (stop groaning ).

In my opinion, the thread about Peter's health is the most visited because:
1) he is a very kind individual (he has not yet fired a 200mm OBA on my troublemaking self), as well as the most dedicated author I have ever seen ;
2) since ToTH is - and remains - a one-man-show, there is no way we can see any news until he recovers. This is also the reason, in my opinion, why the MMP offer to co-operate has - as far as we know - received no reply.

I do not understand the "difficulty" issues with ToTH: the game very elegantly takes care of all those ASL rules that made ASL so difficult to play (those who never forgot checking if a Morale DR exceeded ELR or if a Red MP AFV Stalled, are authorised to cast the first stone: I'm ready to admit I often forgot such issues). This makes the game deceptively easy to play. The only thing it needs to become a true masterpiece is...

Successfully playing ToTH only requires a bit of knowledge about the matter and some common sense: running in the open towards a HMG with a ** leader or charging a Panther with a Stuart are very quick ways to die, but usually one only makes such errors once.

A final word about the loss of participants: it is normal, and the best way to avoid this is to give the members some expectations for the future: unfortunately, this is not currently possible (see the opening paragraph above), so we will have to wait.

UP844,

The only thing this game needs, because all the meat is there, is some serious speed! Even with Razer Cortex shutting down everything in the background and visibility set at 9 or lower hexes, the somewhat large to very large scenarios take tens of minutes for the A/I to complete if not longer.

Yet I can play through a Corps sized scenario in Campaign Series WWII or Middle East where the A/I takes 10 minutes at best to complete its turn! Corps size, that's saying something!!

Before you give me a rebuttal of something like "go ahead and play your Campaign Series and leave us be!", I may remind you that back in 2016 I, me was one of the big proponents of this game for the solid reason its the first one of its kind to bring something super close to ASL on the computer and I truly love it!

My beef with this game is there is copyright issues tuned to one man Peter and I can appreciate that, its his child. But with that having been said, imagine what the potential of this game is with a development team working on it?!! Graphics guys, code guys, research guys etc, etc!

Campaign Series Middle East is a real good example of that and what can happen when there is a development team, a development team working on one project to make a solid, fast, super fast and playable games!!

I'm 65 and before I die I would love to see that with Tigers on the Hunt hands down!! I have often said Tigers on the Hunt is my go to game when I need a break from Campaign Series. It still is.

Thanks for hearing me out friends!
John
