For me, single player means, I don't need anyone else to play. But that can extend to two player hotseat games where I'm both sides, and really, you can play an MMO, and if you ain't in a guild raiding, it's technically siongle player too.

I suspect some consider games that are you vs the AI, no hotseat option is 'single player'.

For single player, I'd say Panzer Corps and Advanced Tactics.

Harpoon and John Tiller’s Campaign Series. TOAW also (III/IV), but sometimes I miss the clean simplicity of the original TOAW I.

Edit: Of course Panzer Corps wins hands down on tablet

War in the Pacific AE....now can't get it to run...that's what I hate about computer games as compared to Board war games.

Hmm, Steel Panthers, maybe, but that was so long ago when it was matrix’ sole project. Horse and Musket was a gem, too bad the series wasn’t continued.

What you probably need to do is find the right switches for the game, especially if you are using Windows 10.

I have had no problems in Windows 10, EXCEPT the graphical thing for 1920X1080. But then I read up on threads about it and got that fixed, too!

My favorite single player game (I play it single player, it can be used for more) would have to be To End All Wars. For some reason, I keep having to play it. And I'm REAL bad about not playing a game all the way through, but To End All Wars, I always play to the end, unless I'm having troubles with CTD, but that only happened when I was recording my playing of it.

Three computer games have taken a vast sum of my time since 2000.

Civilization up to version V.
Heroes of Might and Magic up to version 3.
Steel Panthers in most of it's forms, mainly Mega Campaigns.

Honourable mention to Battle Academy for how much I have played vs another human.

If we are just measuring statistics, nothing comes close to time spent on Civ solo and vs other humans.

I think the most under loved title is Advanced Tactics.

I think the most complete package belongs to TOAW for strictly wargaming.

I think the most stupendously ill advised expenditure of my funds is World in Flames.

I think the most "I want to play it more, but just never do" is anything with Gary's name on it.

I'd have never become a computer wargamer without Steel Panthers though. It was my computer wargaming 'first kiss' :)

I probably spent more time playing Steel Panthers World at War than any other Matrix title.

The SSG title Korsun Pocket got me to Matrix games. That was followed up by War in the Pacific in '04 and then Battles in Normandy, Battles in Italy and Battlefront.

Then came the Big 2 - WiTP-AE and WiTE. Since 2009/10 I have not been without an active game of both of these. I run a triple computer setup and there is always WiTP-AE on my left and WiTE on my right. In the centre usually are two other great Matrix games - CMNAO and Command Ops (although I play CO2 more often than CO these days, pity Panther left Matrix).

So in answer to the question, it would have to be Korsun Pocket because it was the first...

Cheers
