Hard to say … looks like your bde was still unloading so it was missing support and supply. Check how it looks, maybe rest a day or two and see.

no chance to take Cebu with that unit alone, daily Allied bombardments make it worse disabling a dozen squads on average... lol, thought a 60 av unit would be sufficient to take Cebu after one year of starvation

True! Together with the 20 ressource centers there the Allied were producing bullets and shells for over a year. Oh well, no biggy, even if it's quite silly to only bring 200 av and think the enemy would be starved to death.

no sign of any real enemy activity, I don't expect the Allied to try something in the next couple of months... the turns have become a) very fast and b) insanely boring... all I do at the moment is playing Logistics Tycoon in the Pacific, redeploying lots of units and moving supplies to where it is needed... we do spot a good number of enemy subs each turn but that's about it... spotting and succesfully attacking some other ships is a real highlight, there is no more real ground war going and the air war stopped weeks if not months ago... this means I'm only going to post days where at least something happened but be aware it's not day by day anymore...

You could post a turn with "Nothing much" about each area, with any highlights noted.

one of the things they just didn't get right in AE, minewarfare... crazy in WITP, as crazy in AE, both times not working... Argonaut hits a mine for a repeated time, as always the sub isn't even heavily damaged, lays her own mines and moves back to port... the sub would be even able to submerge, sink one of your carriers and move on... AFTER HITTING A MINE... sooo wrong... if you can't make something to work better just leave it out...

our three tank divisions were moving overland to Hyderabad (Sindh) which is the base two hexes to the SE of Karachi... recon reports three enemy units at Karachi, 10000 troops and some guns... don't expect much more than a base force or two and an inf unit to meet the garrison requirement there... have no doubts our tank "Army" will take the town in a blitz, will be interesting if we find some big fuel or supply stockpiles...

Mundy doesn't seem to be seriously defending the subcontinent anymore, well, guess there isn't all that much left that actually could be used to defend it... we've received our Dinah III recons and equipped some units already which have been flying recon over Ceylon... all bases there are garrisoned, Colombo and Trimcomale got huge contingents of troops and recon shows some 1000 aircraft on the island so there have to be several hundred... looks like Ceylon is the fall back position of what the Commonwealth have left, I also expect the emergency reinforcements Mundy received to be going there as there is no place left in India he could really use them...

The answer is that I have never failed to get the oil to flow south to PA and/or Fusan. But, you will need to induce it; that is for sure.

in all my games the oil from Urumchin only went South if the refineries in China/Korea were running low/out of oil. As long as those refineries were supplied with oil Urumchi just stopped producing when reaching max oil. I don't want my refineries in China/Korea being low on oil as this usually is a bigger disadvantage than the advantage of having Urumchi's oil flowing South.

decided to further attack South in India as we spotted some enemy ground units sitting there... as the assault on Bangalore begins we find another Indian Division... nice! Means we're going to wreck yet another major Commonwealth combat unit... level 6 forts and bad terrain make up for a good defensive position but I have no doubts we will take the place... two tank rgts took a beating, the rest of the units is in perfect shape and we will do back to back deliberate attacks until the base falls which is most likely in three or four days...

our tank divs attack a second time and Karachi and take the base! BANZAI! BANZAI! BANZAI! How many times does a Japanese player see Karachi, Bombay and Chungking falling? Karachi being more or less undefended tells me the enemy doesn't have any real Commonwealth Army left that could put up a serious fight on the subcontinent... all that is left seems to be defending Ceylon now, including hundreds of aircraft... industry at Karachi was taken intact but we didn't find any real fuel depots and "only" 60,000 tons of supply... with this success the victory point ratio has gone up to over 6.5:1 in favour of the Japanese, Allied ground losses nearly 26,000 now...

Now you know what the Allies felt like late in the ETO when there bombers were running out of valid targets to bomb with their thousand plane raids. Your massive land Army has very few worthy targets left unless you decide to swing for the fences and attack the West Coast so Tojo can sign the surrender in the White House.

thanks Pax, though I have to admit that taking Karachi wasn't really an achievement anymore as Mundy didn't have much left to defend it. Recon shows Ceylon being a huge pileup of troops and aircraft now so everything that is left and everything that was brought in as reinforcements was going there it seems. Unfortunately this is exactly the right thing he could do. If he had brought some 1000 or even 2000 av to Karachi, I would have just brought the hammer again, fielding 6-7000 av and no doubt, Karachi would fall and we would bag yet another big stack of Allied troops.

Weeks ago, both ingame and real time, I was thinking about what to do next and while I am surely dominating the Seas at the moment I don't see a target that would be worth it. Hawaii or the West Coast, this would all be totally crazy. Russia? Thought about it, but to what gain other than more points? We already have a 6.7:1 victory point ratio!! We would free up a couple of thousand av more from Kwangtung but that isn't worth the risk. The supply there? AFAIK from my Allied games, the Russian hardly have enough to even build up real stocks.

What's left then? Australia. In NE Australia Mundy has some 700-1000 aircraft according to recon, so probably something like 500. He surely has more in total in Australia, there must be Australian Divs as well as US Divs. I don't see much of a chance nor a reason to attack Australia at this point, I've already taken Darwin and the Northern bases. Just imagine what it takes to bring 6-7000 av plus all the support and supply to attack Australia! And then it's not a sure win.

While the IJN still rules the Seas due to the disastrous loss of four USN CVs in mid 42 there's no reason to attempt anything really crazy. As it stands now, we have a perfect situation, we have literally no losses, own all of China, India and we took way over 1,000,000 tons of supplies in India, bringing our supply stocks to nearly 5 mio tons at the moment. What more would a IJ commander dream of in 3/43?

Mundy currently has Wasp and Hornet, some British CVs (no idea which or how many) and probably some odd CVL/CVE. This force isn't nearly enough to seriously start an amphibious operation. He might grab a base or two in my far outer defensive perimeter but that's it. The real fight is most likely to start in late 43, by then I will field all Georges and Franks, that's not going to be a cakewalk for any Allied offensive operations. I have not lost any carrier, worst losses so far are 5 DDs, 3 of them were one I care about. So far I received probably a dozen new ones. No BB, no CA/CL was lost so far, in total we've lost some 102 ships for a whopping 600 victory points so you can imagine which ships we have lost.

While typing this it comes to my mind that this all might sound as if it was easy going but it wasn't. Nor did I expect to achieve all this by losing that few. Mundy perfectly matched me (WITP AE Tinder ) when it comes down to what I didn offensively and what he did defensively. He thought it was great to make a stand at Rabaul, I thought that would be great too! Result was a horribly beaten up Allied Navy with four carriers, over a dozen cruisers and I don't know how many DDs destroyed. Still took Rabaul without much of a problem in the end destroying enemy troops there. Port Moresby was a little tougher on the ground but no difference in the end. Port Blair against the Commonwealth, same story. He was defending forward, it perfectly matched my offensive thinking. He lost a BB, countless aircraft and hundreds of tanks on the islands which he could have used in India. Actually I was attacking India before I even took Port Blair, it all just turned into a big POW camp without supplies that was in range of my cruisers to be bombarded at will.

Everytime we had an encounter it was a good force on the Allied side and it was the hammer on the Japanese side. Everytime it resulted in devastating defeats for the Allied. At some point it turned into a steamroller, when I took what I wanted to take and then even more, see India where the initial plan was the area around Calcutta plus destroying as many Commonwealth troops as possible. Now we have a shattered Commonwealth Army that won't be able to do a serious ground offensive into Burma in mid 43 as it usually starts. And then again, it's not easy going, everything is stretched. I have troops from Karachi, to Singapore, Darwin and all the way to Tarawa. And I have to move those troops! I also have to move the needed fuel and even more so the supply. I never have enough ships, I never have enough air units or at least not as many as I would like. PILOTS! I only received a good hundred IJN pilots each month as replacements in 42, this going up now in 43. By 7/42 I had totally drained the IJNAF pilot pool, this without a real attrional airwar against the Allied as I just didn't do that. I have lost 2000 aircraft so far, 1500 were ops, mostly naval search. Leaves us with 500 aircraft lost to air and flak. This shows how light the losses were so far and I still had no IJNAF pilots in the pool that I could even train. Again, it's not easy and my AAR might make it sound easier than it was or than it felt to me.

Perfect storm. Sometimes the game just clicks for Japan, I know it did in my auto victory.

I would look at taking Alaska, as something to do, and to keep whittling away at the USN which is your main opponent.

Thanks.

I doubt the USN would show up when I would go against Alaska as the Royal Navy didn't even show up when I was going for India. And then there's nothing in Alaska that would do me any good. It's 3/43 and IMO it's time to prepare for the defense, especially with the given perfect situation.

I have no clue where most of the US LCUs are sitting, nor do I know where the USN got all the assets. I'm sure Mundy is steadily preparing his first real offensive move but as mentioned before, I doubt he will be able to do something big before autumn 43. Of course he could do something crazy like creating a couple of hundred ship TFs going Kamikaze to the Philipines or even the home islands. But that would be too off IMO and ultimately lead into the destruction of most of his assets as I have A) a huge, undefeated airforce, B) an undefeated Navy with a really strong carrier force and C) dozens of divisions I could muster against any crazy move. It could also lead to the PBEM come to an absurd halt at some point and that would be a real pity. This isn't one of those Nemo-style Kamikaze games, so I doubt something really off will happen and I think when the Allied start to attack it will be somewhere in my outer perimeters, just like it should go. I also started the attack on India at Calcutta and not Karachi.

when you consider that there are as many heavy flak guns at Port Moresby like the Japanese had at a major city in late war one has to wonder why the enemy only loses 1 bomber to ops when the bombers attack at 8000ft... Perfect storm. Sometimes the game just clicks for Japan, I know it did in my auto victory.

I would look at taking Alaska, as something to do, and to keep whittling away at the USN which is your main opponent.

Thanks.

I agree there isn't much there in Alaska, but you aren't looking for points, but rather to keep the initiative. But if he is unlikely to fight for it, well no point going there then as that is the point of the exercise.

But it could keep the Allies farther away from Hokkaido unless he wants enemy bases in his rear. Depending upon how far you go, some night manpower raids into Seattle might be possible.
