But it could keep the Allies farther away from Hokkaido unless he wants enemy bases in his rear. Depending upon how far you go, some night manpower raids into Seattle might be possible.

While I doubt the Allied would try to land on Hokkaido I could react quickly to this. Would be like a Kamikaze attempt like I mentioned in the post above. Could work, but at insane cost and it probably would end the PBEM within 2-3 months. Either with total defeat of the Japanese or the Allied and the odds are for sure in our favour at the moment.

Take Alaska and Threaten that Northern Canada Port. Allies cannot let you take that as you can then night bomb Seattle/Tacoma area. It will force him to burn PP's to garrison that whole area, thereby telling you where some of the US LCU's are. Also forces him to keep USN close by as well.

nah, really don't see a benefit from doing this and I won't night bomb anyways as that is screwed and I want to limit it as long as possible. If Mundy doesn't use the Royal Navy to defend India at all cost, he for sure won't use the USN to defend a damn place somewhere in Alaska. And how should he? The available USN carriers are by no means competitive to KB at the moment and he has to be sure I would bring KB to the party if I landed four or five divs at Adak or wherever else up North. I bet that would be his go to use the couple of carriers he has (or even without carrier support) to start one of his offensives, knowing KB is weeks away. So either in the South Pacific with the Gilberts and Marshalls or around Port Moresby or Darwin. Even the British could launch an offensive out of Ceylon knowing KB is cruising around Alaska, which would be the worst place to have KB for me.

Well, still watching with great interest!

the prob about being interesting for the audience is the fact that it's horrible boring at the moment and it has been like this for quite some time already. While that is good for my strategic situation in the game of course, it sometimes nearly brings me to do something, just to have something happening in the game. Though the next moment I realize that it's better to just play Logistics Tycoon in the Pacific and further build up as I'm sure we will get another chance to strike hard. Every skilled pilot I lose now during combat that actually isn't needed is a pilot that will be missed when we really have to strike.

So I'm just leaning back waiting for a chance to strike while my pilot, fuel, supply, HI, arm, veh and aircraft pools are growing. Biggest question at the moment will the Frank be available when the enemy starts his offensive? While it's no wonder weapon it's clearly a difference to field Franks instead of all the Tojos now, just like it's a difference to field Tojos instead of Oscars in mid 42.

lol, this was all that happened today... our adjusted av isn't great but that doesn't matter much, we will take the base... look at all those fragmented units, looks like most of the units was evacuated, pretty sure that happened with air transport as I noticed higher transport losses for some time and asked Mundy about it and he said he had an operation going... had no idea where but I bet those troops were airlifted to Ceylon... guess 20th Indian Div is going to die at Madras...

that was quite surprising to me, during daylight pretty much the whole Royal Navy opens up on my divisions at Madras causing quite devastating losses... have never seen such an effect on combat units by a naval bombardment... disabled squads were quite high and all my divs have disruption between 80 and 90 now!!! if Madras would be defended by a real force we would be in trouble now but naval bombardments won't keep us from taking the base...

4:1 on the first attack followed by a 2:1 on the second attack with a horrible adjusted av due to the naval bombardment... there are no enemy troops left that are anywhere combat worthy so this isn't going to turn into a disaster and the disabled squads will be recovered quickyl after the fall of Madras...

You could say that was a BAD task force that hit you at Madras.

I think you mentioned he still has Ceylon, so you know where they came from. I wonder what he has there? Early 43 so he doesn't have CV's to do anything. Once you get Madras and the rest of lower India, you can sweep his airforce off the map. All (but 1?) of the bases there are coastal, so you can then return the naval bombardment favor. If he's got a lot there you can really hurt him. Even Indian replacements are that great and if he moved a lot there, it might be worth removing those from the game. OTOH, just bombardment will eliminate all of his supply and navy and then everything just dies on its own. Potentially you might even turn it into a trap … just thinking here …

Yeah, Tanjore can be built to a lvl9 AF, and from there both Frank and George can sweep any/all bases. Possibilities.

Yes Mundy owns Ceylon and he will keep it. The island is a big unsinkable aircraft carrier with some 1000 aircraft according to recon, so probably around 5-600 in total. Also lots and lots of ground units there, every coastal base is garissoned and has high forts by now for sure. Also the Roval Navy is around in force when I look at all those ships in the bombardment. If it was a one hex island I would for sure think about taking it to destroy the ground units there, Ceylon is off limits. It's just not worth the losses I would take and I feel I can hurt him more on the defense now compared to do another all in operation like attacking Ceylon. Of course it would be another decisive victory but how many more do we want to achieve? It's just too risky.

looks like Mundy is sending everything he has... in the end our flak claims nearly a dozen enemy bombers so I would highly welcome if he keeps up these attacks as they won't change the outcome at Madras (at best postpone by a day or two) and the losses will quickly add up...

no air attacks, no naval bombardments today and Madras falls to our next deliberate attack forcing most of the units to retreat while Madras Fortress and another fragmented unit surrendered... not much destroyed in terms of combat squads as Madras Fortress seems to have been the only unit left with some combat squads but lots of support squads and vehicles destroyed... non of these are in short supply so they will be easily replaced over time but Commonwealth flak guns and artillery isn't as easily replaced and in total we scored nearly 1000 pts for the capture of Madras... the tanks are ordered to pursue the enemy...

always again amazed how short the combat reports in this campaign are, we're in March 43 and nothing really happens...

Aircraft Attacking:
24 x P-38G Lightning bombing from 100 feet

first thought this would have been a mistake but asking Mundy about it he said someone on the forum suggested to use fighters at 100 ft to attack my ground units... lol, the Lightnings didn't even carry bombs and I'm amazed they only lost one fighter to flak...

those paras there will die to starvation at some point...

the strafing attack of Lightnings at Madras wasn't the only surprise this turn... during the air phase we suddenly had Dinah-III recon over a stack of Australian troops that seem to march towards Daly Waters which is clearly an offensive against Darwin... I have to admit that this was pure luck as this stack was spotted by accident as I have been moving in three recon units and forgot to assign them targets to they just reconned nearby bases and this Army which otherwhise would not have been spotted until it was next to Daly Waters... 23 units, lots of tanks and guns, looks like he is bringing some kind of tank units plus artillery but not that many infantry divisions I guess... will be interesting to see what is going to assault Darwin, we still have at least a month until the enemy will have marched all the way North... an overland campaign to Darwin is not something I reckoned with...

Mikazuki only survived because the torps were duds... in return we score one near miss for something like 1 sys dam on the sub... all these subs are spotted daily by my Helen ASW groups and Jake naval search, we get something like 6-10 "sub is hit" messages so about 1-3 real hits on subs at least but that makes them retire to their homeport at best as the 250kg bombs do **** against subs with the reduced bomb damage in the mod...

Recon over Townsville has spotted several task forces the last days and today a Mavis on naval search finds two task forces moving NE from Townsville at four hexes per turn... High Command is alerted and I'm pretty sure the enemy is trying to move towards Milne Bay as the dot base is not garissoned and we saw lots of recon in the area lately so the enemy knows the dot base is empty... if he really attempts this move it's bold for sure but I'm not sure there is any chance of success as the task forces were already spotted and the base can not be taken by surprise... such a move without carrier support even when Port Moresby isn't really a threat feels like a suizide attempt, I have ordered carriers, Yamato and Musashi plus a heavy cruiser task force to move into the area... the landing craft don't have the range to reach Milne Bay from Townsville so the second task force has to be used to refuel them, there are at least a dozen spotted ships, destroyers, freighters, transports and there might even be some cruisers, at least according to nav search (can as well be an xAK)...

wow, let's just piss me off again... fast transport that moves to Milne Bay, unloads and just stays there... these kind of flaws in the game have pissed me off so many times already it's just idiotic... had four fast transport TFs, three moved in and out, this one just stays in place waiting for the bombers... and no, there were easily enough ops points, fuel and all the other needed stuff to move in and out...

of course the enemy launches wave after wave at max range... that single bomb hit was enough to sink Yukaze a turn later while Allied subs hit my mines and aren't nearly in danger to sink, let alone by all those 250kg bomb hits from my ASW... looks like it's a nothing works turn for us...

when we spotted those two task forces moving NE from Townsville we ordered the Navy to take position around Milne Bay and today our carriers were in range of the enemy ships... it was surprising to see them still being 8 hexes from my carriers as I expected them to be way closer but seeing Lightnings over those ships told me Mundy has set up a Cap trap... I guess he wanted to catch Betties that could reach the convoys from Lae so he stopped his convoys instead of having them move further towards my carriers which he didn't spot until today... he might have also been alerted by some Judies on nav search spotting his subs but I had Judies in the area earlier too so I'm not sure about that... while we highly outnumber the enemy Cap our fighters are shot to pieces by the Lightnings having the dive but all Jills get through the Cap... when we have full detection on the enemy convoy and the carriers only launch pityful strikes I wonder what the hell is wrong again... the freighter and the transport are sunk but there were only very light ground losses...

but hey, there's still the afternoon phase... and how's the situation in the afternoon? Thunderstorms to start with... doesn't matter I think, the enemy convoy is again spotted several times, has full detection level from the attacks in the morning and is in range... so let the bombers take off...

NO!

morning's idiocy is copied in the afternoon, as we launch 18 bombers and the majority of the convoy survives... ridicoulos... we lose 8 Zekes vs 2 Lightnings shot down plus another 2 Jills and instead of annihilating that convoy we only sink 5 of it's ships... we won't attack tomorrow as there's no doubt the convoy will head towards Townsville with probably over 100 fighters set to LRCAP it...

let me have my heart attack... Taiho is her third day at Sea and is targetted by SS Tautog which misses her with four torps... the carrier has an escort of no less than eight DDs plus two heavy cruisers, didn't matter... started playing this game some 16 years ago and I never ever had problems with Allied subs when I really put an effort into ASW which I always did... always took losses but in return I was also able to hurt enemy subs but I have to admit that in this campaign it only seems to be a matter of time until enemy subs will cause serious problems even though I have maximized my ASW efforts...

Japanese aircraft losses

Allied aircraft losses
B-17F Fortress: 5 destroyed, 1 damaged
B-17F Fortress: 1 destroyed by flak

same B-17 unit as yesterday showing up over Port Moresby again, no idea what the plan is here... this time we have way over 100 fighters waiting for the bombers and while the Tojo is nothing more than an outdated crappy aircraft the George proves to be the expected bomber killer... while the Tojos only damage a couple of B-17 while losing 2 Tojos the Georges down 7 bombers for no loss... another bomber was downed by flak, only one returned to base... this was the first engagement of the George and it was a full success, pity there wasn't a bigger bomber strike... desperately waiting to replace those Tojos, they are good for fighting Hurricanes and Blenheims but can't compete with Allied 4E bombers, let alone modern Allied fighters...
