first really severe loss to subs in the war as Guardfish sinks a 11600 capacity tanker... Huzisan Maru might have made it on the way back from Japan but being fully loaded with fuel the tanker had no chance... 10 E vessels escorting 10 tankers, no effect...

E W-22
AK Hakkai Maru
DD Yuzuki
DD Yayoi
E W-24

Allied Ships
SS Hoe

getting even better as Hoe sinks W-25, one out of 8 ASW ships in this TF... in return we have the reported dozen hits on subs each turn, most of which aren't happening due to FOW and many more not being worth it as the 250kg GP bomb does sh*t in this mod with halved bomb damage... I'm aware of the real life deficits of the IJN when it came down to convoys and ASW but I'm actually doing it totally different, without any effect on Allied subs it seems... have to admit that the losses so far have been very light but that was due to not many attacks and dud torps... two months ago it seems subs have become a major problem...

Can you establish a naval blockade of Ceylon or are you moving the IJN elsewhere?
There are a lot of points in that allied surface combat TF!

Thanks for the input guys, I really appreciate that. But like I have mentioned before, I see the situation completely different. Ceylon is a fortress, the whole RN is there, something like 700+ aircraft of all different types and each base I could land has a strong garrison, even the inland bases have troops. Attacking Ceylon would be something of the worst I could do as it would mean inevitable losses, huge losses. Even if I would succeed, it would be crazy to lose all that stuff to seize Ceylon. Why? Because we have a situation pretty much every IJ fanboy is dreaming of. I might sound arrogant, perhaps way too arrogant, but I can't remember reading an AAR that came nearly to the situation we see in this game. I can remember the most famous PzB AAR where he missed the 4:1 and failed at Karachi to take India. Well, I can summarize the strategic situation in this PBEM again.

When 43 came around we achieved autovictory with way over 6.5:1 (how many games achieve this?). We took China. We took India. In India we have destroyed thousands and thousands of enemy assault value of Commonwealth troops. We seized some 1.5 mio tons of supply in India with all the industry producing there for us daily. In total we have 5+ mio supplies, 5+ mio fuel at the moment. 1 mio HI in the pool with 15,600 HI produced each day. We have seized all oilfields we could reach, all are fully producing. We have sunk all USN carriers early 42, only Wasp and Hornet were left at the end of 42. We have sunk more than two dozen CA/CL, four BB, dozens of DD, dozens of TK and I don't know how many freighters.

Most arrogantly speaking, we did this while we lost three fleet destroyers... There is no aspect where it isn't running perfectly for us and doing something crazy like attacking Ceylon would nothing else be like total victory desease. I could as well pick up six divs, take KB and the rest of the fleet and invade Hawaii. Why? No reason to do so. The enemy lost 26,700 points just for ground troops, scoring more points for grounds troops doesn't sound like a good reason to me to risk the whole war when going after Ceylon which would require most of my airforce, KB and pretty much the whole IJN. This would strip the rest of the map of pretty much all my assets and the enemy could even invade the Marianes with no chance for me to react. No, I won't attack Ceylon, the enemy might attack out of Ceylon and it will be costly for him but it would be ten times bloodier for us to attack that damn island.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR Apr 09, 43

that's the combat report for 9th April... nothing...

what did happen was the loss of 5 aircraft on ASW/nav search... this is getting so retarded and it pisses me off in each game as the Japanese as I lose more aircraft on nav search than I have bomber ops losses in combat missions as the Allied. Pilots aren't fatigued, they are all trained, flying from minimum lvl 5 airfield, no airfields are overstacked, normal range. And I lose 2 or 3 of them on average each day. Idiotic.

Usual messages:

Ki-49-IIa Helen from 92nd Sentai crashes on landing
E13A1 Jake from Yokosuka Ku T-3/A crashes on landing

daily...

the earlier reported enemy stack of troops that was reported in Northern Australia is nearing Darwin, the first bunch of troops should arrive there within the next three or four days I guess... in total recon shows 28 enemy units, over 80,000 troops reported, lots of vehicles and guns... will be interesting...

I wonder how he is going to supply all of that? That long leg from Alice Springs makes it challenging to get supply to support offensive ops.

exactly my thought, the last thing I was expecting was an overland campaign against Darwin. My first bet would have been an invasion against Port Moresby with limited carrier support but not an attack on Darwin.

OK, good, I'm not missing anything obvious. So, with luck you will spank him pretty hard … Ozzie replacements are just fair across the board. Hurt him hard enough, he might not recover in this game ….

enemy units finally reached Darwin where we have three Infantry divs, three Tank divs just arrived from India, artillery and support... I would be very surprised if the enemy Army was able to achieve anything here as the forts at Darwin reached level 6 just today the plan is to cut the enemy off and destroy them, this is why the Tank divisions are here...

just have a look at this... that's the moment where I have to bitch about some non working routines or code in the game... has been there since release and never has been something done against it, the so called stupid counter bombardment... Mundy's Army finally reached Darwin yesterday and he ordered a bombardment to see what I have there just to have his units be hit by a nuke... I've said it so often but unlike the silly strato sweeps it never got attention, there must be something wrong when the damage done by counterbombardment is 100 times higher than what you do when you order the same units to bombard... IDIOCY...

it's a very optimistic operation to move overland to Darwin with such a force (5 more units in the hex SE of Darwin) as I had ample time to react to that move... my tanks have been ordered to move SW on the road then head E to cut off any retreat path, the three Divs at Darwin will have to deliberate attack in one or two days so the enemy is pinned...

see... follow up turn when all my units were ordered to bombard, it's nothing compared to the silly counterbombardment result of yesterday... I'm perfectly ok with this turn's result, but yesterday's is so wrong, someone should have look at it ten years ago when it was brought up again and again and again... and again and again it was ignored... oh damn... my tank divs moved out of Darwin and try to cut the enemy off to the South East where he's trying to retreat to already so I had to order my three divs to attack to reset the enemy's movement... I know from previous land engagements that Mundy is moving his units in reserve mode usually as they always were able to retreat faster than my units could follow them and to be honest, I don't even know if land attacks reset the movement if the defender is in reserve as air attacks aren't resetting the moving units into combat mode nor are they slowing them down... all in all I was quite shocked by the result of this attack though because I either expected a 2:1 as I was sure the enemy would not be fully supplied or at least we would cause equal losses but causing only 150 disabled av while we lose way over 400 is a really bad result when we also miss the needed 2:1 by several hundred adjusted av...

it's going to be a race now, most likely decided by only a day, either being late or not... if we make it the enemy will suffer as he will most likely end up being cut off, if we are late it was a big mistake because if I had left my tanks in Darwin they would have been sufficient to force a retreat of the enemy today... I already fear it was the wrong decision...
