Status: offline 		Just to give you an idea. Air losses on ASW/nav search today. Date is ahead of the AAR but it's just an average day.

ALL these aircraft were lost on an ASW/nav search mission, all of them.

Status: offline 		Maybe the [true] reason why Japan has lost so many planes out in sea is because they unknowingly declared war against a alien Race using Unidentified submerged object's after hundreds of Japanese planes bombed the oceans with depth charges.

This lead to the aliens whom for whatever reason are camping in the Pacific to unleash their Foo Fighters against your bombers and search aircraft but they don't overtly destroy the planes, rather they sabotage them which "perfectly" explains everything when they catastrophically crash lands at your airports.

Like I kid you not their is an equivalent to the Bermuda Triangle in the Pacific Ocean although its relevantly forgotten and I haven't watch or read anything about it in 6 years, its called the "Dragons Triangle" and covers the area south of Japan in the Devil's Sea.

V I C T O R Y !!! The last four defending units in the Jessore pocket surrendered... it was the 18th January when the enemy started his invasion at Diamond Harbour and Calcutta and over seven months later the last enemy unit that took part in that invasion surrenders to IJA troops near Jessore... 150+ enemy units with over 500,000 troops were lost in that operation... it's like Rommel's wet dream, the enemy literally never got inland from the beaches and was ultimately destroyed...

don't know how many thousand victory points that were for all those units but we are closing in to 50,000 victory points for Allied ground troops lost...

no combat at all this turn, the usual hundred sub sightings... we are planning a bombardment of Roi Namur tomorrow as the base is the main anchorage for Allied subs in the area with with lots of support ships there... we have heavy cruisers going in tomorrow and a BB squadron going into position for a bombardment the night after... there's also a convoy of tankers spotted at Roi Namur...

after sinking the tanker convoy the cruisers and destroyers work over Roi Namur's airfield but pretty much completely ignore the three dozen enemy ships at anchor there... would have liked it being the other way around or at least 50/50... we don't even destroy a dozen enemy aircraft so without sinking that small tanker convoy it would have been pretty much a waste...

ordered the BBs around to retire to Truk, pretty sure the anchorage will be guarded by PTs tomorrow...

in most of my convoys like this one I have more escorts than freighters but that doesn't help... not expecting the subs to be sunk but at least it would be cool to keep a couple of them from attacking...

naval search picked up Allied carriers again today as an enemy fleet is closing in on Wake... no doubt we will see an invasion here within the next two days... Wake is defended by only combat units, three nav guards, a combat eng unit and Wake's CD unit with a couple of 20cm guns... can't have a stronger combat force on a 6000 stacking atoll... there are also 150 mines and the troops are awaiting the enemy behind level 6 forts so that's not an easy target and it has gone really bad for the Allied at comparable targets in the Marshalls previously...

what kind of stupidity is this now??? I've been playing this game for over a decade now but have neither seen something like this in my PBEMs nor seen it in any AAR... looks like these LCI (G) that carry 120x4.5 inch rockets are atoll cleaners... we have nearly 200 av on the atoll, level 6 forts and we lose pretty much all of our av to the LCI (G) fire during the landings? Seriously???

WOW! We built up an atoll to level 6 forts which is the highest to reach on that small atoll, have Wake's CD unit with 20cm guns, 150 mines and nearly 200 fully prepped av on the island and after the super LCI (G) whipe out all my combat troops we get an adjusted av of 1! In words: O N E!!!

I've seen a lot of out of whack stuff over the years but this is new to me... Mundy obviously knew about the super power of the LCI as he included a ****load of them in the invasion TF and literally no warships... need air attacks? No? Need a division to take the atoll? Actually no because some construction units probably could get enough adjusted av to overcome the 1 av we had after the LCI had killed the whole garrison... OH MY F***ING GOD!!!

if I try to find something positive I'm left with a DD sunk and 102 US combat squads destroyed but that's not making up for the losses we suffered to the LCI alone... the whole USN doing bombardments on a daily basis couldn't do what those LCI did in one day... clearly something like an oversight due to very late war that usually nobody reaches anyways, can't believe that is WAD...

Status: offline 		this is the super ship type that can clear any enemy island of all defenders all on it's own... the enemy gets like 75 of them throughout the war and they have clearly super powers... LCI (G) > BB...

Status: offline 		as if the LCI (G) wouldn't be totally out of whack already, it can get even worse as there are also LCT (R) that are the equivalent of 8 LCI (G)... use five of them and you can clear any island without using ground units if today's result is consistent... if it is, it's totally, absolutely idiotic...

what had a suppressing effect in real life is an atoll cleaner in the game...

after the disappointing loss of Wake Island we planned a retaliation operation in the Marshalls and promptly spot a bigger convoy coming in which was the go for the airforce... thought the convoy would move to Roi Namur but it was actually heading to Kwajalein when it was spotted at anchor in the morning... we had two Frank Sentais set to escort but all over the day only one took off which is one of those moments Kwajalein only has a level 1 airfield and the incoming strike is opposed by the best fighters the Allied can field and to my surprise the P-47s only achieved just so over a 1:1 vs the escorting Franks but the Mustangs really shot up the Franks... it didn't matter in the end as the Franks did their job and all Graces got through CAP and it's their high speed once again saving them, was quite surprising with a pre warning time of 36min...

weather wasn't great but the highly skilled bomber crews had a field day against the anchored convoy sinking over halve a dozen ships in this strike... the convoy was bringing fuel so every freighter that was hit turned into a flare and should be a kill... not a single bomber was lost to flak...

afternoon strike and it was only the same Frank unit as in the morning on escort, having only halve of the fighters left... this way of having airstrikes and whole units refusing to fly has been pissing me off since release and it has never gotten better, it still feels totally stupid when you have fully operational units just not flying because of... I don't know, a fridging borked routine... not talking about weather, low morale, overstacked airfield or wahtever, it's just the usual behaviour, you order fighters to fly, they don't... that's how the game works, that's not how reality was nor is... there is one big thing in real life wars and it's called orders and if you don't obey these if there isn't a real reason hindering you then you've got a problem... the game gets applause for "a new way airstrike work"...

so for what reason ever instead of 98 Franks we only had 49 in the morning and two dozen in the afternoon and it was more than surprising that the two dozen in the afternoon were enough to fend off the CAP and again getting all bombers through CAP... pure luck, could have also been 35+ bombers shot down in the afternoon, the escorts suffered horribly though...

must have been a really big convoy and in the end we sink well over a dozen ships today including two destroyer escorts... after the loss of a small tanker convoy to my cruisers earlier our airforce also sinks this freighter convoy so still not a lot of fuel for Kwajalein I guess... Roi Namur has a level 4 airfield but only a small port and according to air recon that's where all his subs seem to be stationed but Kwajalein has the bigger port and would be better suited so as long as the base hasn't got enough fuel/supplies the enemy will have to keep using Roi Namur as major fleet anchorage in the Marshalls...

Status: offline 		our primary goals are always to hit ships and destroy ground units, both is what really hinders Allied operations and to achieve this we are well accepting losses if we can achieve good damage which was the case today... over a dozen Allied ships sunk and it will take another two weeks to bring the needed fuel/supplies that were lost with this convoy... the cost to our Frank Sentai was heavy though, losing halve of the available fighters and 13 higly skilled and experienced pilots... that's like losing KB pilots in early 42, these pilots are irreplacable...

usually I don't use an elite Sentai like this one for escort as a 70/70 unit can do that just as well but we were in a hurry when we spotted the enemy convoy so we had to make do with what we had... the Frank unit was tasked with CAP over it's own base when the convoy showed up the day before... in the end it was a mistake to use this unit when it suffered 1:4 vs the CAP...

Mundy has his foothold in the Marshalls after taking both Roi Namur and Kwajalein finally but by not taking out the majority of the nearby bases he always runs the risk of taking heavy losses if he doesn't escort all his convoys with strong surface assets or at least some CVE which is hard to do in the long run...

fun fact we didn't lose a single bomber in both attacks but when I transferred the unit back to Truk two of the Graces crashed and were op losses, both crews killed...

no idea what the naval movement routine is doing again, both PT boat squadrons only had to move 8 hexes in total but only moved 4, the other 6 hexes, out of 12 possible so none of the PTs made it back to Wotje during the day... the movement of this one is a prime example of stupidity, the PTs only moved to Kwajalein and stayed there waiting to be attacked... it's like the fast transport routine that doesn't work every third try with the ships just staying at their destination instead of moving out again... and no, of course the PTs were not set to patrol and had full ops point... the shell hits do literally nothing to the PTs but the 500lb bomb obliberated the wooden boat...

no action at all today but during the naval search phase one of our picket ships 900 miles East of Marcus Island has been picked up by at least a dozen carrier based dive bombers today... there was no airstrike on the PB at all the whole day but clearly we have enemy carriers in the area... guess the invasion of Marcus Island is going in or it's a carrier raid...

Pax, the question is who will do the ambush... No idea what Mundy is bringing, if he thinks he can do a quick grab on Marcus Island with only some CVEs as cover then he will be in big trouble but if he brings his whole fleet then I'm not really keen on a carrier engagement in that area, at this stage of the war we need LBA support to wear him down first before committing our carriers even though they field some 1,500 aircraft...

it's becoming crystal clear though that the enemy is moving onto Marcus Island, we have spotted only one CV TF so far...

Status: offline 		I hoped to have some more time to reequip the carrier fighter units with Sams but super KB has just arrived in the Marianas so we have ordered the fleet to move into a position exactly eight hexes NW of Marcus Island which we should reach in three days and that should be D-Day at Marcus... I'm not planning a full carrier engagement but to hopefully strike a CVE group that I'm expecting to cover the invasion beaches... super KB fields roughly 1,500 aircraft, some 950 fighters (830 Sams, 120 Zeroes) and the rest bombers (Judy, Grace)... the fleet carriers also have all our CVEs with them which is the reason for this high number of fighters as we have loaded up all CVE that have no own air unit with fighter units...

we're trying a new tactic against the one click delete an atoll LCI(G) tactic and while we have already 200 av on Marcus (same we had at Wake which were deleted in one go by teh LCI(G) we are now even flying in another Inf rgt from Iwo Jima bringing the strenght up to 300 so hopefully after the idiotic LCI(G) have unleashed their flawed load we may have some 100 av left to fight the attacker...

what a damn silly start of the operation, while all my task forces had full op points the whole fleet only moved THREE!!!! hexes from Guam which totally screws our plan already as we won't be able to reach the position eight hexes NW of Marcus Island in time now as the enemy is already seven hexes East of Marcus so we expect the enemy to land the day after tomorrow... really don't know why the movement routines are hitting me that bad so often, I checked all settings over and over after ordering the carriers to move and the routine still screws it for no apparant reason...

Status: offline 		noticed this turn that we overtook the Allied in air losses... already nearly 1,000 Jakes lost on nav search, the three leading airframes in losses are pretty much all coming from ASW/nav search...

Normal range and extended range, doesn't matter. Have tried everything already, doesn't matter. Those that never spot something never lose something, those units that spot subs also suffer losses. A hundred sub sightings per day means 4-10 losses each day.

I have squadrons where each pilot has flown hundreds of missions and not a single op loss due to areas where no sub has ever gone so far. There's obviously a difference in the routine when it comes down to losses and it has clearly something to do with actually getting a sighting or not. Lots of sightings, lots of losses. No sightings, no losses. Settings the same both times.

Status: offline 		In my current game, I have had Whirlaways on ASW hit by flak. My subs have hit enemy aircraft with flak. That is probably where the OPs losses come from, damaged aircraft.
