France can be fantastic or rubbish. Often during the same game.

Are France any good? Their first half against USA was a pain to watch.

Brilliant for 10 min, crap for the rest. Alwayd been like that, although the ration has got bigger in recent years. Can't remember the date only a player, Serge Blanko (might have spelt it wrong) when the ratio was the other way round.

The French turn up sometimes - as in when they beat the ABS 2-0 in NZ a few years back.

At other times, not so much, but no one wants to play the France in a knockout game, because they might just have a good day.

Just FYI, tomorrow Poland plays USA in the Vollebyall World Championship held in Japan. They say USA field their best squad available. Don't know if you get any live coverage in USA since volleyball is mostly a European thing.

...and another one today. The Argies could have caused England problems (especially as England can't kick today) but then go a lose a man with a dumb challenge.

Half time England 15:3 Argentina

...and sure enough England are through to the Quarter Finals and Argentina are heading home.

Final Score England 39:10 Argentina

That was a deserved red card every day of the week. A late mungo style hit.

Starting to look forward to the Engerland/Aus game in a couple of weeks... it is marvelous that all the NH press are writing the Wallabies off, I can only hope the England players are too.

First rule of any sport the Aussies contest; never EVER write them off - they will likely bite you on the arse if you do....

Well I desperately hope - as all Rugby fans (except for the Japanese ) hope - that Scotland's game goes ahead at the weekend and they get the chance to qualify, but Mark Dodson is making a bit of an arse of himself. Legal opinion? The rules are the rules. Scotland - as with all countries - knew the rules ahead of the tournament.

It was the same with the cricket World Cup, poor weather was predicted for the semi-final stage onwards and had it come to pass, then it was possible England would fail to win the World Cup - or get to the final - because of the weather. But no one was bleating about it because the rules are the rules.

Anyway, let's hope the appropriately named Typhoon Haggis moves away and the match can go ahead.

....mmmm if you say things like that and you then get the chance you've been seeking, you've got to kind of then go out and win.....

Well done Japan!!

I suspect the final 4 will be England, NZ, Wales, SA.

Aust, Ireland and France have been inconsistent. I think the Japanese have played their final.

NZ-SA final most likely, but Wales more likely to upset than England.

I would actually be quite happy if the upset was Japan over SA, but not likely.

Sadly England can usually be relied upon to muck it up - especially when favourites.

I hope you are right (except Japan and not South Africa) but I'm not confident....

I just captured Palembang in my pbem with no industry damage, so I take that as a positive omen for the Wallabies!

At half time Sir Clive Woodward said England just need to keep it tight for the first 5 minutes - and what do they go and do?!?! Australia never lay down and die do they!!

But fortunately England didn't lose their heads and ran out worthy winners in the end.

England 40-16 Australia

So who will it be? Ireland (never been to a WC semi) or the rugby colossus that is New Zealand?

It was wishful thinking!
Well done England, by far the better team.
Australia were trying to launch shock attacks before the opposition were sufficiently disrupted or fatigued.

Well that certainly lived up to the billing!!

Once again the French manage to self-destruct. What was Vahaamahina thinking about? Deep into Welsh territory, on the attack and..... madness.

Well done Wales!!

Poor Japan just ran out of steam - the second half was essentially played in their half.

But they gave their best and you have to love the Japanese crowds at all sporting events - the Olympics should be a treat.

So its a Northern vs Southern Hemisphere clash for both semis. History says that means a New Zealand vs South Africa final.... but then again hope springs eternal.... I'm just not putting any money on an England vs Wales final
