I love and appreciate the extra focus on the individual soldiers in this release. That really has always been what Close Combat has been about, so it is great to see soldiers return to battle after being wounded, and to chart their progress.

However, some other things I'd like to see is more detail in the soldier roster. I'd like to be able to see a history of the soldiers that have died, too, especially so I can compare at the end of the grand campaign. It would also make me accept when they die more, because they will be gone but not forgotten. Now if they die they are gone, they are gone for good and I don't think you can see their details after that.

So at the end of the campaign, it would be cool to see a kind of hall of honor, where I can see tallies of ALL of the soldiers that ever fought under my command and have details on who had the most kills, who died where and when.

I'd also like to know when the medals were awarded and, like with old Close Combats, it would be nice to see immediately if someone got a medal. If it tells you after battle (like when someone gets a marksman badge) then I'd like to also see that.

Also some of the soldier details get cut off when looking at their stats.

Maybe this has always been in Close Combat, but I love that my officers stay alive longer. And usually they have higher intelligence levels which helps.

It would be great if I could select special teams, like assault teams, of the smartest and most experienced men. You guys have already begun this with the marksman and tank busters and how they automatically get assigned to sniper or tank destroyer teams. I'd like it if you have ELITE missions where you get a special permission to create your own unit as a support unit:

for example, a special historic operation or recon can be added to the game a mission. And there you can assemble the best of the best that you accumulated throughout the game to carry out a special and historically accurate mission behind enemy lines, or to destroy enemy artillery or anti-aircraft guns.

Of course it should be within the bounds of realism, but still give the player a way to let their BEST men prove their mettle.

When you have some really gifted and decorated soldiers, it seems like there is a lot of potential for a feature like that. You probably have already considered it so I am just letting you know that would be a great addition.

Just yesterday I put together an assault team and it had all sergeants and a high ranking sniper which I sent in with them and it was so awesome to see them charge up the hill and take out a machine gun position. What would have been cooler is if I had one or two more Thompson sub-machine guns. So being able to pick the weapons and how many grenades etc they have would also be a great touch.

I really look forward to seeing how this game evolves.

The elite missions would be more of a mod concept I think. To incorporate that into the base game would make it more arcade style, which takes it away from the historical mission aspect. The close combat series has always focused more heavily on realism.

Thanks for the suggestions Saturnian. Adding a roster of every soldier at the end of an operation or campaign is something we've discussed and is on the radar.

Choosing exact soldiers or exact weapon load outs might be good in limited situations or as an optional feature, but in general it is a level of micro-management that's a little too detailed for most.

That's great to hear. I'll be much more accepting of their deaths now, because at least their legacy will live on in some form. lol

As for forming special unique teams, it would be awesome to see that because sometimes the best soldiers get lost like cannon fodder. But I get that it may extend the reach beyond the game and to some extent may not really be so realistic. But still, it would be pretty cool. Like the guy said above, maybe someone can mod it or it can be an optional feature.
